we sailed on this cruise as we wanted to visit the amazing cities around the baltic 1st The good points. The Onboard staff were all amazing from the Cabin stewards to entertainment crew, all very friendly and helpful. But I have to make a special mention to 2 members of staff who did go that extra mile to make our cruise special Putra our cabin steward was exceptional in trying to sort out our ...

Very dated ship. Mainly elderly passengers. Nothing on during the day except bridge bingo and handicrafts. More like a floating care home. Tour operator extremely unhelpful.. Don't book flam railway through olsen it's a lot cheaper to do yourself and there were plenty of seats. Guest service manager very helpful as had to move cabins as extremely noisy. Noticed a lot of cutbacks. Eg no conditioner ...

One to forget

Everything about this cruise was awful. The embarkation in Newcastle took hours, shuttle buses overcrowded and we spent so much time queuing for everything. Once on board we were advised to upgrade to premium drinks package and after sampling the all inclusive drinks it was obvious why! The same applied to the quality of the food! We pre booked two excursions for when we were in St ...

We chose this cruise for its itinerary and the Orkneys and Shetland were great and well worth visiting. We took a shore excursion at Inverness which was informative and well organised by our guide. Check in at Newcastle was fast and efficient. We booked an inside superior cabin on Bridge deck and it was OK with a larger than average bathroom. However, there were none of the touches such as ...

Chose this cruise - Fire and Ice because of the intinery and sailing ex Newcastle. Took 2 hours from arriving at terminal to boarding ship. This was pretty good as some waited over 4 hours! Embarkation gets 4 out of 10. At first the A/C was able to be set to 'Baltic' which is great for sleeping. Being too cold through the day when we got further north I adjusted the A/C - big mistake never ...

Marella Discovery is more like Butlins at Sea

Never Cruise Marella (tui

Even before the cruise Tui behaved poorly. Tui claimed the Kremlin was shut due to an extra national holiday when in fact it is always shut on a Thursday. We cancelled that excursion as a trip to a convent really wasn't worth almost £700 per couple. I am still waiting for a response two months after submitting a written complaint about the misleading information. Not everyone was informed of ...

We chose this cruise because we went to Norway on the Balmoral 3 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We wanted to see the Baltic capitals, so when we saw it advertised in the brochure of our local tour operator (Johnsons Travel, who we know run an excellent door to door servce) we immediately booked. The problems started within2 hours of us sailing when we had to turn back to Newcastle as ...

WORSE THINGS HAPPEN AT SEA - THEY DO. BE WARNED

“Worse things happen at sea.” They did. BE WARNED. . . . . We selected the Fred Olsen cruise to The Baltic 1) because it coincided with our 30th Wedding anniversary and 2) We would be in St Petersburg for 2 days the highlight of our trip. As a bonus there will be a gym, a library, self service coffee/tea bar. What more could you want? Here is what we experienced: THE SHIP - ...

We were on the same cruise as lynandjohn below and basically agree with all their comments, although not so keen on the entertainment apart from Chris Gee who did a couple of very good talks. We also did the Alla Tours two-day excusion in St Petersburg which was really excellent with a superb guide. The previous post has highlighted the limited time we had in Stockholm which meant we ...

Well first and last cruise with Fred Olsen. The staff were very friendly and helped to make a not very good experience a little better. The food was very good and there was a very good choice, something for everyone. Unfortunately the Gym was closed as were the jacuzzi's. Members of a very hard working staff were sitting outside toilets to make sure you wash your hands. 24 hours confined ...
