We had originally booked an excursion to the "natural aquarium", but due to tribal conflict, it was cancelled. In the end, I'm quite glad about that.We got off on one of the earliest tender boats and followed the crowd. Because of the small size of Rhapsody, there weren't too many people, and we had a wonderful time snorkelling around, then slowly wandering back to the tender boats.A gorgeous relaxing day! Read Less

Beautiful island with good snorkelling, there is two beaches opposite each other with a bar/restaurant on one. There are tours available, but we chose to just swim for a couple of hours and got back on ship when the rain started.

We had 3 destination stops on our cruise, Lifou, Isles of Pines, and Noumea. Of these 3 there was only one standout, and that was Isle of Pines. It was just like a picture postcard. Beautiful blue water, and soft white sands. You could spend all day in the water, and sunning yourself on the beach. Saw many local natives selling their wares, and souvenirs on all 3 stops. The only down side of it all, was that they were extremely over priced, unlike the sellers on our previous trip to the Mediterranean last year, where we picked up some great bargains. If they were to lower their prices, I'm sure they would make a lot more sales Read Less

We didn't take an organised tour and not really sure what was on offer - we waited till we were on the island to see what the locals offered. There two options $15 or $25 per person. We chose the $15 tour and most of those driving people movers won't move until they have a full van - 11-13 people. We were a family of 11 and the driver was still trying to tout business to fill the last 2 seats as we were leaving. The driver only speaks French (very little English) therefore there is no commentary - the tour makes 5 stops and we went flat chat from one to the other. Not sure what the difference would have been with $25 trip - possibly one or two more stops - maybe a bit slower. Iles Des Pins - very very very disappointing this time round. This was my 3rd vist and I feel with all the patronage that it gets the water quality is getting worst and hence the fish stay away from the affected waters. Whilst snorkling we sure hardly any fish compare to the previous vistis. The locals are still taking us for a ride and over charging on erverthing from food, drinks and souvenirs. I cannot understand why their prices aren't lower, as if they were they would sell alot more - like $11 for Hot Chips or $10 for a can of beer and the Tap Beer is conviently out of order. C'mon New Calondia get serious...... If a ship did tender here in the future I WOULD NOT GET OFF. Read Less

Isle of Pines - taking advice of other reviewers we got off the tender and walked to one of the waiting tour guides/buses. $20ea/$10kids and he took us to the ‘Natural Aquarium’. 15min drive and he drops you off at the entrance, then $15ea entry fee. It’s a 5min walk down to the water, (maybe we got high tide?) 15min walk through clear waters above our knees (wear reef shoes). But then it comes out to clear blue amazing water with a small reef. A few mozzies during the walk. The driver came back in 2hrs for us. Quite shallow so great for kids, and no current till you get out past the reef a little. When you come back there are a few little market stalls, and food stalls. Everyone takes AUD$. Read Less

We love the Isle of Pines. It is our favourite destination in the south Pacific. We have been there several times so we don't do an excursion. The beautiful weather enabled us to take a swim at the pristine beach. Other guests swam in the lagoon side and snorkelled amoungst the coral and fish. This port is still reasonably uncomplicated and has not been ruined by being populated with traders selling overpriced souvenirs. We have noticed this in other ports after returning years later. The tour was very good with few enough of us that we could spend the time we wanted at the stops. I was then dropped at pic n'ga which I climbed.

If you are happy sitting in the beach, swimming if snorkelling, this is a great place. Talcum powder sand. Beautiful clear water. A number of "market" type stalls to buy souviners.

Tendered direct from the ship, quick and easy, takes 10 mins, beautiful beaches, clear waters and soft sand, lovely. Few small markets also for gifts and souvenirs if that takes your fancy too.

Good snorkelling. Not many options for food unless you are willing to pay about $35 each Aus at the resort. This was probably my least favourite stop but it was a nice relaxing feel.
