We did not get off the ship until almost 10 a.m. to take the complimentary shuttle into town. With an all aboard time being 3:30 p.m. again, we stayed around the first stop and got nice pictures at Hawke’s Bay and the Sunken Garden. We also visited the museum (free entry and free WiFi). The rest of the time was spent shopping and eating. The pies (steak, butter chicken and apple & custard) at Jesters were pretty good. The crust was not as flaky as I like. Read Less

Got the shuttle bus into town, and had a walk around the shopping precinct. Had a coffee in a cafe with free WiFi. Bought a couple of souvenirs. Then back on the shuttle bus to the ship.

Napier is an art deco town, rebuilt after a massive earthquake last century. We did not visit Napier this time, preferring to stay on the ship.

Basically just a bus ride around town with some (good) commentary, seemed a bit expensive for what it was, but Napier is very pretty.

The art deco architecture is Napier's claim to fame which was nice but that was pretty much it as far as the town goes. Not the most exciting stop but I guess they can't all be home runs.

We'd spent a few days here before and it was much the same. It was unpretentious, clean and quirky.

Last time walked 22 km, this time not so far. Napier always puts on a lovely reception with the vintage cars and Art Deco shops. Bus takes you to town ( short distance ) for free as per Picton. Just walked around up and down the waterfront and back up the town over the hill to park above port for lovely views and pics. Back to town via old prison ( it was $20 to go through - unsure if that was for group or one as it was too late to visit. Had walked through town etc earlier - we walked to Mc Donalds to use internet but now in NZ you need to register via a NZ telephone ( mobile ) so couldn't get on, but there was other free internet in the town area - but lots of people were on it so was hard to get ip address and onto system. This port was just average. It had little to offer that was unique and different for the passengers. Excursions included stops at a wool store, chocolate factory and the Filter Room, which gave guests an opportunity to sample various beers, ciders, and ales. If you didn't care for any of those options, no alternative was provided to guests. A request for a glass of wine required additional payment and the same was true for water or soft drink. Read Less
