Probably the most beautiful place I had ever seen - this was what I wrote on my faceache page. We got off very easily on the tender boats and then booked an excursion dockside - I think it cost us around $40 each for a boat ride to a beach with snorkelling and drinks and snacks of various fruit. We also had another boat which collected you from the beach and took you to the reefs to swim with sharks and stingrays an all sorts of amazingly coloured fish. I didn't get in the water - what with the sharks that had attacked someone just three weeks earlier, err I think not! - but the water is so clear that I still got some pretty awesome photographs. You got loads of time and the trip from the dock to the beach and back was across the most amazing lagoon and went past lots of interesting sights on the waterside. Definitely worth the money. We went back to the docks more or less straight after the trip to the reefs but you could stay on the beach as long as you liked - the last boat back was at 1500 and the ship didnt sail until 1800 so you had plenty of time. Great cafe at the end of the road out of the port called Hinano which had some local beer and a lovely walk along a main road with some interesting little houses to nose at. The public beach was around 30-45 mins walk along that road - turn right at the top past the Hinano cafe and keep going. We didnt go to that beach but quite a lot of people did - too far for the poor crew though - they didnt get enough time off the ship to go that far. Didnt find any free wifi but there was a post office selling time slots - they just ran out before we could get there. Read Less

We also stopped in Marquesas which is not listed here, it was fantastic, very little infrastructure and tourism but so wild. We hiked to local lookout which was hot and amazing. Also visited the unique Notre Dame and swam at the beach. For Moorea - we rented a car from Alberts which was really reasonable. Island is easy to drive around and stopped at beaches for snorkeling- loved Pineapple beach (best sand and not a sole on it). Read Less

The one place where the ship will stop long enough to do some real exploring. Not the whole island, but you can cover a fair bit of the north side. Gorgeous, of course, plus finally time to enjoy it.

Not very well organised. First in boarded the bus not matter what time you'd booked. The tour was informative and stopped at a couple of look-outs and a pearl shop.

The sail into Moorea was truly magical with low cloud over the mountain peaks and a shower out on the water. The port was a tender port, so it took a little while to get to shore. It was Easter Monday, but still we saw many excursions via boat to do snorkelling with stingrays and sharks at a lagoon. We really wanted a drive around the island again as well as swimming so we found a good tour for 3 hours $50USD each. There were only 3 other passengers and we were a very happy bunch of people. Our driver was great – and open to suggestions along the way. We had started the tour at Opunohu Bay, going clockwise and up to the Belvedere lookout where there was a great view. We continued around the island which has its largest population in the north. There was not much in the way of shops and only one large supermarket that we saw. We stayed at Papetoai Public Beach where I enjoyed a lovely long swim in the calm waters. I was able to catch a taxi back to the boat for $5USD, then explored the various stall holders at the port before getting the tender back to the ship. Read Less

One of our favorite islands, the beach was pristine and a five minute taxi from the pier ($5). Beautiful water and stunning features (rock formations).

We hired a car and spent three hours around Moorea. Loved it! French Polynesia is spectacular. Bought a mabe pearl ring at Pearlescence-I highly recommend.

We have been to Moorea before. Then we took a half-day tour of the interior of the island, this time we simply went to a local beach using a taxi share with another couple for $5 USD each.
