Although Maui is my favorite island, because of the tender service and limited time, it was a real disappointment. First of all, my mom couldn't go onshore because she needed her wheelchair. Secondly, since time was limited we chose to do a whale watch which was only ok. The boat we were in moved twice and we saw a mom and calf. They let the clock tick away. I've been on much better whale watches. To their defence though, this is early in the season so sightings aren't as frequent as later in the season. After the whale watch, we decided to use our little time to shop instead of eating, so we rushed up and down Front Street, as did everybody else, which made the stores crowded. The worse part of this port was going back to the boat. The line was horrendous. If my mom would have been able to come on land, we would have had major issues with the line. It took a long time to get back onto a tender and get onboard. I will pay closer attention to ports where you have to use a tender, in the future. Read Less

Walked around because we have stayed there many times. Think there needs to be a safer way to load seniors onto the tender.

This was the island that we were anticipating the most because my sister used to live here. The tenders took so long to get us to the island, that we missed our opportunity to rent a car and visit her old neighborhood. We were anchored by 8:00, but we didn't get ashore until 11:00. We had to be back to the pier at 3:30, so the cab driver told us that we would never make it to the interior of the island and back in time to get back on board. We ended up wandering down the tourist trap pier area and boarded the ship disheartened. Read Less

My family and I got a car and decided to see the sunset at Haleakala Crater. It was okay but very cold (recommend tons of layers of clothes). We also went to HA Baldwin Beach Park which was nice and not overly crowded with tourists.

The only inexpensive thing to do was take the free shuttle to Hilo Hatties which was about a 30 - 40 min.bus ride each way and apparently $70 if you miss it and need to come back in a taxi.Less than an hour there was not enough time to check out the other stores in the shopping center and i was afraid to even wait in a lineup at Starbucks. Found out too late theres a nice beach within walking distance of the ship. Second day rented a car in order to go to Lahaina as that's the in place.Found out again too late that many people could share the taxi ride or rental car but at the time did not know the ropes. Live and learn; i still love Maui but not as much as my new favourite Oahu. Read Less

We took an excursion that departed from the port. It was the submarine through Atlantis (company name). You can't really see a whole lot when you are 100 feet below, because of the lack of colors and available natural light that far down. Everything seemed blue or green. The water was also very murky. We would not repeat this excursion. The submarine was loaded about a quarter mile to half a mile from the port, via another passenger boat. The excursion was short and we did not need food. Read Less
