This port of call is exceptional in that it gives on the ground instruction into the city, literally you follow the blue and white squares to be beautiful city! Very clean, lots of shopping and the vendors aren't super aggressive. Expensive though! We were shocked at the $7. US small bottle of beer. But very interesting city and super food to be had! ...
People here are very stand-offish. Did not feel welcome. Though fluently bilingual, locals did not want to communicate in French ... or in English. Seemed like we were imposing. If I ever take another cruise here, will not bother getting off the boat. ...
We negotiated with a local taxi driver for a two hour tour of the island; however, his English skills were very limited and he did not seem to have a great knowledge of the island, so the "tour" was somewhat limited. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it! ...
French controlled, advised to stay out of the "old French district"...only accepts euros with a 10% surcharge for exchange. Royal Caribbean unable to provide exchange rate on the ship...just the rate was asked for ..not the exchange ...
We walked ashore and went to the shops at the end of the pier. Saw some nice stuff but when we made a purchase learned that everything is sold in Euros. As a result we were overcharged for paying in US dollars. Credit cards are not used because of damage to the system caused by the storms.
There were shuttles available to the beaches that looked interesting. We went downtown and over to the fort ...
