Our next port on the Viking Sea was Marseille, France. Because the Gran Prix was actually taking place during our visit we did the excursion that toured the coast and it was just breathtaking. Marseille is very clean with high cliffs. ...

Marseilles is the most dangerous area in France outside if the Parisian suburbs. Don't go exploring the city by yourself! Get on a bus in the cruise terminal (it's a safe area) and go outside of Marseilles. Avignon or Aix-en-Provence are beautiful and much safer. ...

Again we took a taxi into the centre, but if you walk out from the boat along the road there is a FREE shuttle into the centre of town. Marseille has had a great clean up! It’s sparkling and lovely to just stroll, either into the town or around the extensive harbour and boardwalk with great bars you can stop in to watch the world pass by. ...
