We are lucky to live within reasonable distance of Dover, Tilbury and Southampton but the latter is always the best for managing the boarding and leaving processes - and is very good for shelter form bad weather

Easy to access the city and if you go walking far enough, you can ditch the other 4,000 and have a quiet pint in the London Hotel pub.

We did a private tour which turned out to be a disappointment. We went to Stonehenge and Salisbury. Pay the extra and gain entrance into Stonehenge otherwise you won't get a good view.

We spent the night here before the cruise and after the cruise. There are some huge shopping centres if that is your thing, Lots of restaurants. Lots of old stones and houses from past times. Cruise terminal is close to High Street.

Didn’t want to travel into London so we walked around Southhampton and ended up catching a train to an English village called Brokenhurst. It was lovely a nice lunch and only about 15 minutes by train

We enjoyed Southampton, there is an old town. We found a great pub in the old town that served a very good and reasonable breakfast. But the real gem is Winchester just up the road. We hopped a train, the trip was about 20 minutes, and went up there for the day. Now, that was a great day. For us 60's kids there is "Winchester Cathedral" (by The New Vaudeville Band), and a wonderful, picturesque, old town - nice to walk around and take photos. Read Less
