We toured Albert Dock, The Beatles store, the Liverpool Cathedral, the Liverpool Museum and took a spin on the Liverpool Wheel. Lots of unique architecture - new and old.

Gone is the old industrialized Liverpool (all the jobs are in the Orient - lol). the new Liverpool is modern yet has not forgotten their claim to fame - the Beatles. We walked to the Cathedral, the largest in the UK. The size was overpowering. Then we saw the "bomb" church whose roof was destroyed in the second world war. It was not repaired and today stood as a symbol of peace with beautiful gardens. Read Less

We aren't big Beatle fans and so we chose to explore this port on our own. We checked out the museum called "The Western Approaches" - the secret headquarters for plotting submarine positions and receiving messages from central commands. It was certainly worth seeing, although not as "slick" as some museum displays but somehow more authentic as a result. Sopping is great in Liverpool - loved the city. Read Less

May 30, 2012 The ship docks right in the middle of downtown and there's plenty to do. That was just awesome. We strolled down the quay to the Maritime Museum (Battle of the Atlantic not to be missed, cruise liner era nice as well), the Tate Gallery (and fantastic cafe), enjoyed the free museum & gallery plus the best fish & chips the whole trip, Wapping Ales (excellent, never had better) and amazing soup & salad. Walked to the stunning Liverpool cathedral, about 15 minutes walk & a bit of steep uphill, also through council estate housing, but no worries, and not really that dodgy at all. Look for a docent in the cathedral, they are happy to share details and explain the church, discuss service and answer questions. Reasonable-looking cafe there too. Finished up at the new City of Liverpool museum to closing, and sorry we didn't get there quicker, very nice displays in a stylish new building, explains the role of Liverpool in history. Hurry to the top floor for a display of Liverpool as a maker of pop culture and make your way down. Free. We donated a couple of pounds to each museum, keep up the good work y'all. Read Less

Cruise ships now berth right in front of the glorious 3 graces- the Liver building, the Cunard building and the White Star. Right by the Cruise terminal is the lovely new museum of Liverpool, with its interesting exhibits of the history of Liverpool as a city and world port. A little further away is the wonderful Albert Dock and its magnificent Maritime museum, currently housing an extended Titanic exhibit, with never seen artifacts. Within walking distance are the 2 Cathedrals, the busy city Centre, The Walker art gallery and of course, the Beatles exhibits. Read Less

We did a private tour with Busybus and had a great day long tour of the North Wales Coast. We went to a castle, saw the coastline went to a walled city, had lunch in a small town and had a great tour guide. We enjoyed it and it was half the price of the Princess tour. Read Less

We really wanted to go to Wales, so contacted the Liverpool Tour Guide Service (office@theliverpooltourguideservice.co.uk). Hilary was our contact and she set us up with a wonderful guide named Judy Brough (http://www.guidenorthwales.com) or contact Judy at: info@guidenorthwales.com Judy went out of her way to try to fit in all our requests, letting us know when we could take time to 'smell the roses' and when we should increase our pace. Judy spent the whole time with us, even strolling with us around the Bodnant Gardens, Conwy Castle ruins and walking the town walls giving us information and answering questions as necessary and stopping for as many photo op requests as possible. We spent a great 9 hours with Judy—she even brought the blankets for our picnic lunch. Awesome, awesome!! Read Less

Obviously known for "The Beatles" and that is their main draw. There are many areas to visit within Liverpool and the suburbs concerning the Beatles including a GREAT museum called "The Beatles Story". Very well done. However, keep in mind that the entire "small city" is not all about The Beatles. Other than a few areas dedicated specifically to them, there is a lot more to Liverpool NOT dedicated to the Beatles. It's just a typical small, port city. Read Less
