Liverpool has so many wonderful museums within easy walking distance of where the ship docks. There are two wonderful Beattles museums. We saw both, enjoying the interactive experience and the addition of the Elvis wing which we also explored. We did the Fab 4 ride. Then we went over to the Maritime museum and learned of the history of Slavery, but didn't have time to visit the Liverpool museum or the Tate Art museum also right there. We could have used more time in Liverpool. Read Less

We really loved Liverpool! The ship docks right in the heart of the city and is served by lots of hop on/off tours which are very reasonably priced. Queen Elizabeth II was visiting the docks that day so security was evident around the port and the buses were a little diverted but still offered a great tour of Liverpool for only 5 pounds. We got dropped off the second time around near The Cavern Club and I was thrilled to visit the street where the Beatles got their start. We walked a lot, did some shopping and toured the Liverpool Museum on our way back to the ship. Museums are free so you can make a day of it and not spend much at all (except at Marks & Spencers and Debenham's and...) Read Less

The organised trips out were rather expensive, especially Bergan. The railway experience at Flam was well worth it.

We did the BUSY Bus North Wales excursion with C/C members. Conway castle was very nice and the scenery getting there was beautiful. We went to Snowdonia Park and it was breathtaking. Getting out to walk through the hills and valleys was such a great experience. Chester was a nice medieval town but was very busy. Since the Captain was cancelling the next port we were able to spend some time in Liverpool. We went to the dockyard and enjoyed the big wheel and splendid views. We enjoyed Tapas at a pub and then walked around town. There was a lot of Beatles memorabilia, old Beatles Haunts. Read Less

We took the ship's tour into Wales this day. We had a great guide and a wonderful day. It was one of the only rainy days we had, which was fine as we traveled by bus. We drove through Ruffin, where my relatives live. Couldn't stop, of course, so will have to go back there as well! We ended up in Llangollen, Wales, where we boarded a train for a lovely train ride. Had a nice group lunch (two bus loads of us)before driving back. Great day. Read Less

Though not the first port I had to mention it first. This was the best port of them all. Even to Paris, yes, even to Paris. We booked online with busybus.com and Peter - pronounced - Peetur - was the very, very, very, best guide we've had on any of our cruises. The value was unbelievable for the Northern Wales Cruise Special - if you go - you will not regret it. Beautiful country - wonderful guide - what more could you ask for? :) You can go to their website and choose Lounge and see pictures of the "tourist" in action. He takes pictures while we aren't watching. Really neat. But book early so you won't be disappointed. Read Less

On Monday morning we woke up in Liverpool. This was a very special day for the Queen Victoria as it was her first visit to the port. The Duchess of Cornwall came aboard to unveil a plaque. We were proud to watch this ceremony before going ashore. We walked round the Albert dock, visited a newly opened museum and enjoyed a return visit to this great city. We noticed that a large number of people were on the dockside, despite some rain and by the evening this number had swelled to many thousands as we prepared to sail away. There was a great party up on deck 10 and a fantastic firework display from a boat in the river. It was a moving event with retro music playing and everyone singing along as we left and sailed out of the Mersey estuary. The sound of the ship's siren must have kept most of Liverpool awake, but no one seemed to really care and the atmosphere was electric. Liverpool did us proud! Read Less

We pre-booked tickets for the Beatles Experience at Albert Docks. We were very glad that there was a shuttle from the ship up to the information center. Albert Docks was a lovely place to spend some time exploring.
