I have visited Liverpool on a number of occasions and would recommend the hop on /hop off bus to get to the places of interest.

It was a busy Sunday in Liverpool. Last day of a 3 day music festival, bank holding weekend, great sunny weather. Plenty to see within a 10 minute walk of the ship--the Beatles Story (our first stop and still a 20 minute wait in line), Tate Liverpool (very modern art), Maritime Museum, and Slavery Museum--plus others. We had planned to take the ferry on the Mersey--but the line was LONG! Read Less

We took the hop on and hop off bus. Great way to see things and decide what we wanted to see.

The Beatles Experience was an amazing tour. It is very easily walkable from the ship, but unfortunately we encountered a drenching rain storm halfway on our walk. It's probably about a mile away, but sure didn't seem like it. There is a free bus at the terminal that took us up the hill to the church, which was beautiful. Down the street from there is a place called the Philharmonic Pub (or something close to that) it was recommended by a local and what a fabulous place...each room has its own character and it's something to see...and the food was awesome too! We ended up walking back to the ship from there which took about 30 mins, but it's all downhill, so a nice walk. Read Less

The port is flat but it's about 1/2 mile to shopping. The ship did dock at city center, but it's still a long walk for some and a 10-15 minute walk to the Beatles Museum, Maritime Museum, churches and other museums. I did not see many taxis. The HOHO bus tour was 6 pounds and narrated. But the bus was way too crowded and people were allowed to stand up if there were no seats therefore blocking the view for those of us who were sitting. Liverpool is a very clean town and very friendly. The self tour of town was fine. Read Less

When we first looked at our itinerary, this was the stop I was least interested in, and then our stop in Dublin got canceled due to weather and we ended up spending an overnight stop in Liverpool. The bottom line is that this turned out to be a wonderful cruise port -- one of my favorites! Fantastic museums and cafes were a nice stroll from the ship. We really liked the Tate Museum there as well as the Museum of Liverpool. The Museum of Liverpool, of course, has a number of Beatles artifacts but the most surprising one was the actual stage from the St. Peter's Church Hall where John Lennonn and Paul McCartney met for the very first time. The Albert's Dock area has a number of shops and restaurants and we ended up at Vinea, which was a terrific stop for a cheese plate and some beer (they also of course feature wine). The second day we walked a bit further to a huge shopping center and visited the Cavern area where the Beatles played before they became internationally famous. The people of Liverpool were welcoming and friendly and we were sad to leave. In fact, we made sure to buy a Superlambanana kitchen magnet (the Superlambanana is a symbol for Liverpool and statues of it are around the museum area) -- it is currently on our fridge as I write this! Liverpool is a lovely port. The nicest we dock at. Right in the city which is beautiful and all about the Beatles. Better love them if you go to Liverpool.

Another HoHo bus tour and another good guide. A revelation as this was probably our favourite city. Loved the inner old Albert Dock area where shops were modern and prices very, very reasonable.

Walked into the city which takes just a few minutes.Caught a bus to Anfield and had a tour. Back to the city and went to the famous Cavern. Well worth visiting and cost of day about £20 for the two of us
