We aren't big Beatle fans and so we chose to explore this port on our own. We checked out the museum called "The Western Approaches" - the secret headquarters for plotting submarine positions and receiving messages from central commands. It was certainly worth seeing, although not as "slick" as some museum displays but somehow more authentic as a result. Sopping is great in Liverpool - loved the city. Read Less

In Liverpool we stayed mostly around the dock area. There is a beautiful shopping mall within walking distance of the dock. Also, there is the Albert pier, with shops and restaurants. In that area there are two museums; the Beatles Museum and the Maritime Museum. We did both Museums. Both were fascinating. The Maritime museum is actually several museums in one. The International Slavery Museum was very informative. This facility will soon be moving to its own building. There was a section on the Titanic. Also, because Liverpool was the place where most immigrants boarded their ships for the United States, there are many exhibits detailing this. There was a section on the Titanic and a section on Maritime crime and smuggling. After a brief lunch at one of the restaurants at the Albert Dock, we did the Beatles Museum. If you are a diehard Beatles fan, this is for you. There was in interesting souvenir shop in the museum and a Starbucks (with free internet). Read Less

Gone is the old industrialized Liverpool (all the jobs are in the Orient - lol). the new Liverpool is modern yet has not forgotten their claim to fame - the Beatles. We walked to the Cathedral, the largest in the UK. The size was overpowering. Then we saw the "bomb" church whose roof was destroyed in the second world war. It was not repaired and today stood as a symbol of peace with beautiful gardens. Read Less

We used Busy Bus and toured Wales. It was a nice day and we saw many things we would not have seen with a large tour.

Professional when embarking at Liverpool, a long wait to disembark at end of cruise, it being done on a deck basis, meaning we were sitting in our cabins ready to disembark for nearly two hours, and we only had a taxi ride to be home.

Due to walking difficulties, spent most of our time around the dock areas. Lunch was great and the pubs were great. Had a chance to speak with many of the locals. Heartwarming and welcoming to tourists.

Walked into the city which takes just a few minutes.Caught a bus to Anfield and had a tour. Back to the city and went to the famous Cavern. Well worth visiting and cost of day about £20 for the two of us

Another HoHo bus tour and another good guide. A revelation as this was probably our favourite city. Loved the inner old Albert Dock area where shops were modern and prices very, very reasonable.

The port is flat but it's about 1/2 mile to shopping. The ship did dock at city center, but it's still a long walk for some and a 10-15 minute walk to the Beatles Museum, Maritime Museum, churches and other museums. I did not see many taxis. The HOHO bus tour was 6 pounds and narrated. But the bus was way too crowded and people were allowed to stand up if there were no seats therefore blocking the view for those of us who were sitting. Liverpool is a very clean town and very friendly. The self tour of town was fine. Read Less

When we first looked at our itinerary, this was the stop I was least interested in, and then our stop in Dublin got canceled due to weather and we ended up spending an overnight stop in Liverpool. The bottom line is that this turned out to be a wonderful cruise port -- one of my favorites! Fantastic museums and cafes were a nice stroll from the ship. We really liked the Tate Museum there as well as the Museum of Liverpool. The Museum of Liverpool, of course, has a number of Beatles artifacts but the most surprising one was the actual stage from the St. Peter's Church Hall where John Lennonn and Paul McCartney met for the very first time. The Albert's Dock area has a number of shops and restaurants and we ended up at Vinea, which was a terrific stop for a cheese plate and some beer (they also of course feature wine). The second day we walked a bit further to a huge shopping center and visited the Cavern area where the Beatles played before they became internationally famous. The people of Liverpool were welcoming and friendly and we were sad to leave. In fact, we made sure to buy a Superlambanana kitchen magnet (the Superlambanana is a symbol for Liverpool and statues of it are around the museum area) -- it is currently on our fridge as I write this!
