We did the Sea Trek Helmet Diving experience, and this was probably the best tour of the trip. You go in small groups of 6 down the road to Costa Teguise, don a wetsuit and strange space like helmet that allows you to breathe underwater without the need for tanks on your back or goggles, and walk into the sea from the beach out to the edge of a reef. We took a taxi right off the ship to Timanfaya National Park (120 euros for 4 people for 3 hours). At Timanfaya, we took the bus around the park (entrance 12 euros pp), which was other-worldy. Definitely worth it. Upon our return, our taxi dropped us in the downtown area of Arrecife. Many shops were closed for siesta, but we were able to get drinks at a restaurant and tour the castillo. Even though a Spanish member of the Excursions staff gave the Port briefing she did NOT mention it would be a Sunday and ALL shops shut. The Cruise Ships now dock at a quay outside of town and there are NO shuttle buses. There are taxis but these too are limited and be prepared for a hot wait in the sun.
