You can see why this is a world heritage site- but so can thousands of others. Inspiringly picturesque, but if you don't like crowds or too much heat then DON'T visit during peak summer season, especially on a weekend.....Off season when schools and universities are in it should be a lot more civilised. We took the port shuttle to the front of the port at around 8 am, then took a taxi to the train station. We purchased the cinque terre train cards 18.20 euro. We went to the furthest away stop first which was MonteRosso del Mare, then to Vernazza, then Monorola and then we did Rio Maggiore. The trains were very busy.
