Today we’re docked in Kusadasi which means Island of birds. It is also the port to see the ancient city of Ephesus, of Greco-Roman descent. Founded in 1050 BC, it really prospered from 100-1000 AD at the end of which a period of heavy rains buried the city in sandy debris washed from the surrounding hills to depths of 40-60 feet and also filled in the harbor. However, when times were good it was ...
Getting back to your ship after an excursion here requires a mind numbing journey through a maze of shops that is confusing (intentionally so, I'm sure). Given a choice I'll never return and won't miss it. ...
This port is part of Turkey, or should I say Turkiye?
As expected, there are a lot of shops. Just to get from the cruise ship dock into the city, you have to pass through a gauntlet of shops, manned by Turks who endeavor to get a customer into their shop for a sale.

Kusadasi is a pretty, waterfront area where you can easily walk off the ship. Lots of shops and dining within the few kms along the waterfront. We did a private tour into Ephesus and a few other spots. After the tour, we walked the waterfront to see the sights and do some shopping. Closer to the port terminal as you walk back to the ship, there's a very entertaining Turkish ice cream vendor - a ...

We then spent the afternoon at the pool. ...
Hired a personal guide for Kusadasi and Cesme (same guide) so we were able to personalize the tour for what we wanted to see. Ephesus is amazing and probably the most well persevered Greek/Roman ruins. We also went to St John’s monastery ruins where he us purported to be buried. Had lunch in the hillside village of Sirce and then visited a local ceramics shop (Lotus) where we saw pottery being ...
Kusadasi as the ship arrived very early and left early afternoon
We did not feel comfortable about trying to book anything with princess or privately so just walked into the town
( plenty of shops selling genuine fakes!)
If you are even remotely thinking of purchasing anything do some research beforehand to find out the going rate otherwise you will pay over the odds
