We took a private excursion with Ephesus Deluxe tours, which I booked online. There were 4 of us and we were met by the guide when we exited the ship and taken on an almost new large van to Ephesus, about 20-30 minutes away. It was raining all morning, which took away some of the enjoyment, but Ephesus was still interesting. The ruins are beautiful and the Terrace Houses are not to be missed. They have an ceiling area, so we were away from the rain (or sun),so that is a plus for visiting the Terrace Houses too. Due to the rain and dodging puddles, we didn't stay in Ephesus as long as we would have and didn't visit Sirince Village as we were suppose to, but weather can't be helped. Our tour included a delicious lunch at a Rug factory. The rug demonstration was interesting and low keyed---only lasting about 20 minutes. We were dropped off near the ship where we walked into some of the local shops. They had prices in Turkish money or euros and the prices were good. We highly recommend Ephesus Deluxe tours--they took US funds and were very easy to book online. Read Less

We took a private tour as we had already seen Ephesus & Virgin Mary's house in 2010. The reason we took it again was because we had not been able to visit the Terrace Houses in Ephesus on our previous tour -- this was worth the entire cost of the tour. We also stopped (new to us) at St. John's Basilica & viewed the remaining column of the Temple of Artemis, had a local lunch & went to a carpet demonstration at a SCHOOL which meant no sales pitch & more of a demonstration of how the silk cocoons are processed for the silk, among other things. We had been to this port also but joined a tour through cruise critic that included some highlights we previously did not see. Our first stop was the House of the Virgin Mary, then the ancient ruins of Ephesus, the terrace houses, the village of Sirince and the temple of Artemis. Our original trip did not include the terrace houses and did not include Sirince. Both were definitely worth a visit. Make sure you walk through the back streets of Sirince for some great pictures of where the local people live. If your day in port allows time enough for all of these stops, make sure you include them. It was a great day even though we had a duplicate visit through the ancient city. Our guide this year pointed out more things than the guide from last year Read Less

Very attractive town with small fort on island near port. We went to Ephesus in a shared taxi - remember to haggle- very cheap and good service. Ephesus- the most impressive ruins after Rome - brilliant.

Ekol Travel Turkey & Greece - Private TOUR incl The Terrace Houses section plus Mary's house. This was excellent plus we arrived at a rub factory that had tables set out for lunch outside in a large yard - good food, gorgeous rugs (ok, a little pressure to buy, but we all resisted). We booked this tour early and got a 50% discount! Ephesus is amazing but the open air market at the end where we were harassed by vendors did not sit well with us. Read Less

Love this seaside resort town. Great for shopping and wonderful cafes with delicious food. Again I was here before so after two hours of shopping we took a white mini van for one Euro to Ladies Beach. This beach is in a lovely residential area, it has lots of hotels, apartments, shops and cafes. We rented two beach lounges and an umbrella for $10. and spent the day enjoying the sea....what a nice place to swim, relax, enjoy the sun and have a great meal....Ladies Beach - you can get the mini van right after you get off the ship. Ephesus is amazing. So extensive, even though the great majority remains under buried soil. Ekol Travel is a great agency based in Kusadasi.

By far our favorite port. We followed Rick Steve's instructions for getting to Ephesus on our own using the public bus system and found the Turks warm, friendly and easy to communicate with. On the way we discovered the most amazing open air market where we shopped for assorted olives, baklava, the best halva I've ever had, dried figs, and beautiful pears, all of which we brought aboard and set out on the dining room table to enjoy with our lunch. The Ephesus site was crowded with tour groups, and we were glad to be taking it at our own pace using an audio tour downloaded on our own devices rather than following an umbrella. I've read that the Terrace Houses (separate admission) were more impressive than Pompeii so we went in, but I don't recommend them. Read Less

Booked a privage tour through Ekol's. This was well worth it. In Turkey we had a driver and a guide. We took a walk through the ruins at Ephesus. This was better than Pompey or the Accropolis. We went to a rug factory and saw the whole process from silk worm to weaving. The leather factory had beautiful stuff but above my price comfort even with 50 % off. I suspect the jackets were a bargain but I don't know enough about leather. Visited Sirince village. This was a nice stop. Bought a bunch of jewerly from the man who designed the jewerly for the move Troy. Sample some local wines. Olive oil soap. I enjoyed the port of Kusadasi. While the shop owners were a little pushy (come visit my shop, good prices, hi pretty lady). There was plenty to see. Only port on this cruise that actually had something to see right off the ship.
