As we had visited Ephesus twice before we decided to stay in Kusadasi and as we were there 30 years ago and keen to see if it had changed - it had but sadly not for the better!

Took a taxi from outside the Port. Went to Virgin Marys house. Saw the ruins, Leather Factory, Carpet factory. Purchased leather jackets. Great shopping in the Bazzar across the road from the Port.

There again we have been before and as in Athens if it's your first time and you are into the history of the place a visit to Ephesus is a must and there again we did the trip with the ship and our guide was very good. If you just stay around Kusadasi the sea front is a lovely walk but if you choose the town for shopping be warned as its one of the worst places to be pestered to buy, if they would let you look it would be more pleasant but they won't leave you alone and watch you don't get ripped off with lots of very fake goods. Bought leather jackets last time but from a shop we were taken to not just by the port. Read Less

About 6 years ago we spent 4 weeks in Turkey and been to all the areas available from the cruise ship, I would however recommend Ephesus as a site to visit. This port was interesting but stay away from the sellers on the street selling perfume, very cheap and nasty and may damage your skin, eg selling the best brand named perfumes, three bottles for 15Euros, now that is when the "danger signs" light up, for your own health do not purchase. There were many tours available as we left the cruise terminal. For $50 we were on a full size bus with 13 other people for a tour of euphese. The guide was excellent! Very knowledgable. Although, listening to other guides as we toured the ruins I thought they were all very well informed. I was impressed with the professionalism of the guides there.. However, it seems they all end at a silk factory and tour of rug makers. Be warned, they are a very hard sell! Be firm and walk smartly or you may end up with an expensive, albeit gorgeous, hand made rug. All merchants were aggressively selling their wares and can be a bit overwhelming if you aren't firm. Once they know you aren't buying anything, they'll say "you're breaking my heart"... We broke a lot of hearts that day...it was well worth it though, we enjoyed the tour and the town very much Read Less

We booked a private tour to Ephusus which was good even though we were in the centre of a thunder storm. Kusadasi is a reasonable place but spoilt by the Turkish shop keepers who just hassle you through out

Lots of shops in the old town area but shop owners are very pushy. If you do not like that walk all along the promenade (left of the ship) to the new Marina. Great upscale shops, bars and restaurants
