Ship shore excursion. In a group of about 20 with a guide and assistants front and back to keep the group together. Saw 8 dragons which was great. Guide Paul was knowledgeable and had very good English.

Beautiful setting. This tour was also independent. The Komodo Island itself is disappointing. Obvious the 4 komodo dragons we saw were watered and most likely fed to keep them around for the tourist. Reality we only needed to go as far as the dragon watering station. For nobody supposedly living on the island, they need to clean up around the house located there. Take care of the garbage. The Shopping area is horrendous!! I do not appreciate the aggressive in-your-face sales. Read Less

End of the dry season so dragons all clustered around dry waterhole but saw about 5 of them and one walked a short way - the others lay around in the heat!

Did not goon the Dragon tour as too much walking involved. Went to Pink Beach and village but not prepared to transfer from an awkward local boat to a small dinghy to be transported to the beach so stayed on board with four others. Village people friendly but not trying to sell anything but some people would have found walking along the jetty to be a little hazardous. Read Less

Komodo dragons hardly move and they misdirected us as to which trail to take. The shorter one was just as good as the lengthier. Tenders were poorly used.

Worse than awful. Did not bother with dragon park, chose pink beach. Required three transfers, boat to boat, with no facilities on shore. The best thing was the reef condition and many fish to enjoy. After reversing the transfer process we were left on a concrete pier, no shade, no water, no facilities and no Viking reps standing by. Left standing in block long line under hot sun waiting for tender. Two people passed out from heat. Steps leading down to tender were narrow, concrete, steep with no rail. This location needs financial support from Viking and be developed properly... Read Less

The Komodo shore excursion was poor and a very slow 2 hour walk with hundreds of other people. It could have taken 15 minutes and was disappointing. I was there a few years ago and was much better in the past.

I had been to Komodo previously and this time it was much better. I did a private tour and we got to see over 6 dragons, including one walking near the tender pier, There were also deer moving around. I also went to the Pink Beach. However this location has been damaged by people walking on the coral and the small boats used to bring you ashore from the larger dishing boats also hitting the coral. Underwater was littered with broken coral and plastic bags. I would not choose to go to the Pink Beach again, it needs time to recover from the extensive damage. Read Less

We took the Komodo National Park hike and did see the Komodo dragons. But our ranger admitted in 7 years as a ranger he has never spotted them during the hike as they are not territorial and move from place to place. However, they are always found in the clearing made by the rangers where water and food is provided so everyone who takes a hike will eventually be taken to the clearing and will see a number of Komodo dragons there. We also took a snorkelling excursion to Pink Beach and can highly recommend it as some of the best snorkelling we have engaged in. Very easy swim out from the beach only a short distance to the reefs and lots of fish, coral and sea anemone. We even spotted an eel. Read Less

Ths tour was a massive disappointment. we took the ship's tour and it was over sold so that there were many groups all going within five minute slots. Each group had to wait for the previous one to move on. We saw three dragons at a watering hole. we had to clamber to get pictures. The tour was about one and a half hours of walking and seeing virtually nothing. The guide tried his best to give information but it was limited. The ship should have told us that there would be locals selling trinkets and that there were options to extend the tours with the local guides to see more once on the island. Read Less

HAL’s tour is probably the way to go as those using other vendors must us the tenders which HAL controls. We reserved early and were in the first group which meant some of the monitors could be seen in the forest before the hordes came through. Plus is wasn’t as hot. Even with that we had one gentleman pass out who was quickly attended to by the guides who said that usually 2 or 3 go down each day. Go early, come back, take a shower and relax/recover. Read Less
