Panormaic Kaipeda and Amber We had a tour of an Amber factory and then brought to their shop in the city. Had a overview bus tour. Enjoyed watching the process and learning about amber. Once we were in the city, it was more difficult to hear the tour guide but she tried to portray her voice without sound enhancement. Overall a nice tour except for size of group and hearing. Nice little town that was totally destroyed in WWII. Luckily there was a folk festival the day we arrived, otherwise, even visiting the museums (all texts in Latvian, only a few in German or English) the 10 hours we were there was more than adequate. Don't miss the WW II museum in the Memelburg. a really excellent museum and there were English texts. Read Less

We participated in the Palanga and Klaipeda Tour. The tour to Palanga was interesting in that we had a fantastic guide. We did have an opportunity to actually see the palace and walk around the grounds. However at our first stop, we were given the opportunity to see a church and do a walk about but everything was closed and there was nothing to see. And we really did not get a chance to see Klaipeda itself. We were given a glass of Lithuanian beer which was fine but totally unnecessary. Read Less

We took the ferry across to Neringa and the bus down to Nida. Although we would recommend booking a private tour to stop off at various locations along the way. The route was very beautiful and it was nice seeing the different towns and sights along the way. Due to the bad bus timetable we booked a cab back to the ferry terminal, which cost 50 euros. Although the price was worth it as we ended up having a mini tour and various stops along the way :) As it was out of season it was very hard finding a cab so make sure you have your return transport planned in advance if the bus timetables are not suitable. Also make sure you check whether you're at the Old or New ferry terminal as our cruise line told us the wrong one! Read Less

We took a shore excursion with the ship that included a visit to an Amber workshop. I couldn't find any local tour companies that offered that option. Other than that, it would have been very easy to do on your own, very close walk from the ship into old town. This port is not included in the Rick Steve's port book, so had to do independent research. Read Less

There really is not much to see here. There are good prices for amber at the market. We enjoyed a nice lunch in town.

We did a ship tour to Curonian Spit - lovely to see but I'm reminded why I don't like doing tours. Why is there always a couple of people who think it's OK to be late or to try to change the intin?

We took the excursion that takes you to the Curonian Spit, Juodkrante and then Nida. I really wish we could have spent more time in the Spit area and then just go to Nida. In 5.5 hours there was just too much to explore and you could not really feel anything. There might be a tour with just these two and you will be better off taking that :) Read Less

Tour was ok, but hard for some people to keep up and therefore miss a lot of what the guide is saying. Oceania needs to invest in tour communication devices!!!
