We had been expecting to see the stones. They were way off in the distance. The tour guide was more interested in talking about her home than educating us on what we were seeing.

Could have spent less time here or skipped entirely. Just a small town to walk around. We saw the fort which was prob the coolest thing.

This was our 2nd Princess Tour - West Mainland Sightseeing and it was OK but it reminded us why we choose private tours. The tour guide was very nice but it was her first day on the job and she neglected to tell the bus driver to even slow down for the Standing Stones of Stenness. We just rode right past it with not photo stop. We were able to tour the Ring of Brodgar and see a bit of Kirkwall as we were whizzing by the sights. For us, Guernsey and Kirkwall were just bonus days so that was Ok. Private tours at Kirkwall were limited and booked up quickly. Plan far ahead if you want a private tour in Kirkwall. Read Less

I'm glad this port was included on the itinerary, however the included tour DID NOT match the description and illustrations. While the illustration shows the Standing Stones of Sternness, the bus did not even stop there. We did stop at another set of stones, but were given just 20 minutes there, when the walk from the bus to the stones was at least 8 - 10 minutes. Very disappointing for those of us who are photographers. Read Less

There are only three sites in the town, and all of them are one nera the other one... It is recommended to make a tour to the Ring of Brodgar. But there are only two tours a day: at 10:00 and at 14:00. The ship embarked at 11:00, so there was only one chance... Now, pay attention: they begin to sell tickets after 13:00. We arrived to the teller at 12:30, and found a long line... After standing all the line for about an hour we found out that all the tickets have been sold! So if you are eager to make this tour, come not later than 12:00. Finally we were happy, that we have not reached the tickets: it began raining, like a storm, and I just thought about going aroubd outside for the next three hours....Eeeee. We returned on board, drank some tasty beverages in our warm and quiet restaurant and looked outside with a feeiling of satisfaction.)) Read Less

We expected this to be bleak and it was, the overcast weather did not help. The port runs a free shuttle bus into the town, otherwise it would be a half hour walk. I had a walk round the town and visited the Wireless Museum, big collection, but the display could be better. Then I made the half hour walk up to the Highland Park Distillery, passing St Magnus Cathedral. I was back on the ship in time for lunch. Read Less
