We had Mary show us around and she took us to all of the old neolithic sites. She also had great stories and information. She also took us to a place where they had two "sheep" pigs. Very fuzzy pigs that were big but still quite cute. Highly recommend finding Mary or her husband for a tour. Read Less

Our guide from Wildabout Orkney was top notch - Chris is an archaeologist who had wonderful things to share about Skara Brae and the Ring, Standing Stones, etc. Lovely tour - I'd take this one again.

We did a Viking tour with a coastal hike. Then went into town on our own and saw a beautiful cathedral made of sandstone.

Explored the beautiful Orkney Island of Scotland. Tour included a walk thru the ancient stones at the Ring of Brodgar. Tour bused across the island past green rolling hills marked with stone property markings and sheep. Lots of sheep!

This was a very interesting place to visit. We did our own thing with hiring a Craigie's taxi to take us around. We were able to go places and see things that we wouldn't have been able to do with a shore excursion, however, as pleasant and polite as the taxi cab driver was, he was no tour guide so there wasn't too much information presented on where we were going and what we were seeing although, everywhere we went, there were interpretive signs so all was good. We ended our tour at the Highland Distillery which is a really cool distillery to see and then walked into town to St. Magnus Cathedral. There is a free shuttle bus from the tourist information centre to get back to the ship. Read Less

Lots to see in Kirkwall and another lovely town, The museum and cathedral were interesting but the Wireless Museum was my favourite.

We took a private tour with friends on Red's Orkney Tours by David Hamilton. This was the best tour we have ever done - his knowledge of the Orkney Islands and the attractions is very thorough and we really enjoyed this tour.

We had pouring rain but still enjoyed the port stop. We arrived 12 hours early so got to enjoy an evening in Krikwall including a concert at St. Magnus Cathedral. The Cathedral is well worth the time you spend there. We went back during the next day to look at the modern artwork (decorated viking sails) and the building itself. There is also a visitor's center close by. For me a Kirkwall highlight was the Orkney Wireless Museum, which for an old radio head like me was like being in a toy store. World War 1 and II buffs will also be interested in the military exhibits and the use of radio by the ships in the Scappa Flow. We enjoyed some Orkney Ice cream and scones and tea. A lot of fun. We did a HAL excursion to the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae & Skaill House. The Ring of Brodgar & Skara Brae were interesting, Skaill House ordinary. Unfortunately the weather deteriorated into rain and wind and it was very unpleasant. The local council ran a free shuttle from the port into the town of Kirkwall. At the end of our tour we caught it into the town which was quite interesting. A pity about the weather, otherwise we would have spent more time wandering. Read Less
