A lovely place! We opted to do our own thing and had pre-booked a visit to the Highland Park Distillery. This was worth the walk, approx. 45 minutes. Very professional. We were in a small group with a dedicated guide. He was very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. Leisurely walk round the various departments were processes were outlined. Followed by a tasting session. The shop was well stocked with reasonably priced items and a great stock of various Highland Park Whiskys. Had lunch in the Lynnfield Hotel just down the road from the distillery, lovely home made produce and reasonable priced. Very nice town with Museum and Cathedral to name just a couple of the attractions. Nice array of shops available Read Less

This was an excellent port. Loved the excursion to Skara Brea. Kirkwall itself was lovely with a cathedral and good range of independent shops - lots of local jewellery available.

the included tour was very good, however does not include visiting Scara Brae, should consider an optional tour that goes there.

We toured several parts of the island of which Kirkwall is part. The Shetlands are beautiful, but our highlight was visiting a Bronze Age village.

I'm glad this port was included on the itinerary, however the included tour DID NOT match the description and illustrations. While the illustration shows the Standing Stones of Sternness, the bus did not even stop there. We did stop at another set of stones, but were given just 20 minutes there, when the walk from the bus to the stones was at least 8 - 10 minutes. Very disappointing for those of us who are photographers. Read Less

Loved it the best of all stops. Took the WWII special excursion because of my husband and I had not expected to enjoy it as much as I did. Definitely worth doing that excursion.

We took Viking's "Yesnara to Skara Brae: A Coastal Walk" excursion. It was excellent; really a cross between a walk and a hike. After a 25 minute bus ride to Yesnara we began our trek along the cliffsides catching dramatic scenery and plentiful birdlife. We stopped at a couple of Neolithic sites to hear about archeologists' discoveries and theories of when the buildings were erected and who lived there. After 2 hours we arrived at Skara Brae, one of the oldest historic sites in Scotland dating back to 2500 B.C.E. The site was very interesting and included a recreation of one of the houses. We hopped back on the bus and heard a lot about life in the Orkney Islands and the people of Kirkwall. Read Less
