Kaua'i is not an island you can experience in just 1.5 days! On our first day, we rented paddle boards and paddled Wailua River, then we drove up to Hanalei (a place deserving of several days itself). On the second day, we didn't have time to do much of anything so just wandered some local beaches and ducked into some shops. Luckily, the husband and I were able to return to Kaua'i for three days after the cruise to experience more of what this amazing island has to offer. Read Less

We walked over to Kalapaki Beach (by the Marriott hotel) and spent the sunny, warm day lazing on the beach. We also visited Duke's on the Beach for hula pie and mai tai for lunch - yumm. It was a lovely lazy day.

So many things to see and do just walking along the front and the street. A cute little market in the baobab park, Fleetwoods on the street, gorgeous coastline. This island is great.

We did not take an excursion and wished we had. They had a lot of rain we found debris on the beach near the port that we visited. Some people advised against swimming because of the water that suffered from all the debris,

Visited Hanalei Bay and walked the pier, shopped in town, enjoyed lunch and shave ice. Then visited Waimea Canyon the next day. Stopped in at Duke's BOTH days tho :)

Big time rain ruined any chance of a good port stop. Took the free shuttle to Hilo Hatties (it's not supposed to be WalMart shoppers) and we did shop there and then walked next door to Walmart and resupplied. Last real chance to buy stuff at reasonable prices until the South Pacific. Had a nice experience at Duke's although pricey (MaiTais, fish and chips, Hula Pie). Read Less

The ship seesaws its way into Nawiliwili Harbor, a challenge for any ship's captain. The cruise terminal is in a warehouse and there are shuttles outside for shoppers and rental cars. I've been here before, so I rented a car to bum around the island for a few hours. I think the Fern Grotto is worth a look (you can see it on your own or take the ship's tour) and I believe everyone should see Waimea Canyon at least once in their lives. The Canyon was socked in by clouds on this visit, however. Read Less

Got off ship and walked around. This was my favorite of the islands. It is quieter.

Kauai, we rented a car. Do yourself a favor and reserve your car ahead of time. Each rental car company has their own shuttle going to the pier every 15 ~ 30 minutes. You can park the car over night at the ABC store about 4 blocks away. You have to do the brunch a the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. Of course, you also need to do Waimea Canyon and Wailua Falls. You will dread doing a tour bus for Waimea and they can't go to Wailua Falls. Spouting Horn is fun. The cruise will sail past Na Pali coast which is absolutely stunning. Get you seat early on the 13th deck, port side. Read Less
