594 Katakolon (Olympia) Cruise Reviews

We took the little train around town and stayed on the beach. We didn't go to olympia since there just wasn't much time. We enjoyed the afternoon with drinks on the beach and relaxing- the weather was great.

The museum is a 5 minute walk up the hill, lots of nice things from the site itself, both included in entry fee of 12 euro. Shops in area selling mostly the same things you can buy anywhere in Greece. Read Less

Bah.. if you've seen Pompeii or Athens.. it's just ok.. But you see where the Olympics all started.

Beautiful little port. We love going here and it is so convenient to walk off the ship onto the waterfront and while away some time.

We went on our own, got a bus ride to the historical site, €10 round trip I believe. Very interesting, especially for camera buffs. We dined on the pier afterwards in Katakolon.

Wasn't really happy with this port. Kind of smelly and not rally a lot to see immediately. I suggest taking the train soon as you get off the boat.

We chose not to see Olympia as we were told it was underwhelming. We found a cab right outside on the pier that took the 4 of us to Kourouta Beach for 80 euros total round trip. The beach is about 20 km up the coast but definitely worth it for the better quality sand and tons of beach chairs and cabanas available for free. They also serve food and drinks on the beach and are pretty decent prices (~15 euros for sandwich and drink). Besides the beach bar though there is no shopping or any other form of entertainment. Perfect for a hot day though Read Less

We just stayed at Katakolon and ate/drank/shopped. In the afternoon we went to the beach just to the north of the pier and laid in the sun and swam. A lovely relaxed day.

We took a bus to Olympia from the port and visited the ancient site on our own. We had purchased Rick Steve’s book on Mediterranean Cruise Ports (great buy, by the way!) and did a self-guided tour described in the book. Worked very well for us. Olympia is a unique place for those who love history. If you don’t do research and come out to Olympia ancient site on your own, it might be a disappointing experience, as all you will see is a bunch of rocks. This is one of those places that requires you to do a research or join a tour group with a knowledgeable guide. Read Less
