Ignore tours and taxis and take private coaches (end of pier) to destination. Cost €10 return (45 ks distance) Entry further 12€ if senior use euro health card as proof -half price to here and Acropolis. The coaches spend 2.5 hours which is about right at Olympia. Suggest site first then main museum(10/10) as it gets v hot. Secondary museum adjacent to coach stop a bit contrived (6/10). Tour at more than €100 didn't have time to visit main museum as it was visiting a winery (Greek wine?)...... Read Less

It took so long to tender to the port that we didn't have time to go to Olympia. We went to the little shops and the beach near the port. It was a great day.

Small tiny port, which restaurants and tourists shops. We didn't do an excursion due to time concerns and the heat, but had a lovely lunch and walk about town.

We did not take an excursion. A 10 min walk will get you into the small town that's full of shops and restaurants. Look out for the BEER BIKE. A great little 30 min trip for 5 euros per person including 2 beers. A family-owned ... Read More

Loads of cafes etc and simply idyllic . No hassling from shopkeepers and a great attitude. Worth a little discussion on price since there seems to be a cash price and a higher credit card price. This was a great stop. Loved it and the coffee was great also Read Less

Again we arranged a taki tour to take us to the Olympic village. The taxi ride was sub par, but the sites were neat. Need far more time to see the ruins of the Olympic village and a tour guide would be advised, as many of the ruins are not labeled or explained. After the Olympic area our driver took us to an excellent homely farm - one of the highlights of our trip. Garbage disposal and government services are really lacking in this area of Greece and apparent nearly everywhere with mounds of garbage and areas of litter. Smokers are common and as in other countries (except Croatia and Slovenia), smokers just litter their cigarette butts everywhere. Read Less

Our shipped docked in Katakolon, a relatively small fishing town. There is a great shopping area and many great restaurants to try. We had a great traditional Greek breakfast if you can call it that. We then took our chances with one of the bus tours to Athens. I will say be careful in choosing these as we learned that many are not licensed to drive or park their buses in Olympia. With that said, we still enjoyed a cheap but comfortable bus ride to Olympia and also got a free walking tour outside of the ruins that was actually very informative. We then had time to explore the archaeological site and museums with time to shop and have meal before taking the bus back to Katakolon. Read Less
