This was by far the best rour we had. The Olympia area was very interesting, the museum was great and then the olive oil farm experience was outstanding.

This was our last stop, and we were feeling a little sad by now. There is a small train that runs from Katakolon to Olympia every 2 hours or so for 10 euros per person roundtrip. I knew my kids would think the train was fun, which was one of the reasons we chose it. It was also a pretty 45 minute ride through the countryside. We were off the ship at 9:00 and the train left at 10, so there was a little bit of a wait. You can search for information online about it – it is easy to find. After you arrive in Olympia, it is an easy 10 minute walk from the train station are the remains of ancient Olympia, which we really enjoyed walking around even though it was nearly 100 degrees. In fact, it was so hot that the Hellenic Red Cross very generously was handing out free bottles of water. I would have liked to have stayed a little longer, but we needed to get on the 1:10 train back because the next one was not until 3:30, which was cutting it too close. There are a number of waterfront cafes on the way back to the pier. I would have liked to have stopped for a bit for a cold beer or glass of wine and Greek seafood like we had in Crete, but we ended up getting back on board to have lunch. Incidentally, it was a VERY long walk from the ship to where the buses, taxi, and town were. If walking is an issue for you, please check into it in advance. If I had to do this stop all over, I might have gone by bus or taxi to Olympia, which probably would have given us an hour head start over the train even though the train was a nice way to travel and the kids liked it. If we had done that, it think it would have given us enough time to swim at a local beach for an hour or 2, which I would have liked to have done and it would have given some more time in Olympia (I could have used another hour there at least). I had my eye on Agios Andreas, a nearby beach as a possibility that I believe was accessible by a little trolley bus, but it wasn’t meant to be. Read Less

Took a Taxi. Disappointed in the actual Olympic site but thought the town was lovely & we wish we had spent more time there

In planning, I was pretty sure we would be to pooped for a 4th tour -- and I could not have been more right. I considered an excursion to the beach...but was put off by the price (onboard $45 each and Viator about $30 ea if I remember correctly). So, my daughter and I took our chances. We went off the ship and immediately found a taxi that agreed to take us to a close-by beach (that was not the very close one that was reportedly very dirty), for 30 Euro round trip (total). The driver waited for us for 1 1/2 hours and took us back. The beach was absolutely beautiful and a welcome respite. On the way back, we had him drop us off a bit shy of the port so we could do a little shopping. So glad I did not book anything! Read Less

Was one of our favourite ports. A great little town for shopping (great prices and selection), some good waterfront restaurants). We were the only ship in port and it was a relaxing day, not a lot of crowds.

Not much to do in Katakolon so we just took a horse and carriage ride along the beach and sat at a beach front bar for a couple of hours. The sun beds were free and there was free WiFi so it was just a nice relaxing afternoon.

Yet another tour with The Travel Insiders. Our guide on this day was very well versed in the Olympic area. She provided both Greek stories and confirmed historical facts about the area. She took us into the museum to see wonderful status found on this site. There was so much to see and detail the day went very quickly. They also took us to a quiet beach away from crowds where we could sit on a back patio of a hotel and have a good lunch and relax with winds off the ocean. This was a wonderful day. Read Less

It was a very hot day and we had been told that the ruins at Olympia were not wheelchair accessible so we had a wander along the harbour and had a couple of ice-creams and ice -cold beers before returning to the ship.

We loved it. Got off at port-turned right and just browsed the shops. We had a recommendation to shop at Christos Jewellery store (as I was after a certain piece). The hospitality was warm and welcoming (drinks provided). The jewellery was handmade, great quality and backed by the ships guarantee as well, and yes you can negotiate the pricing- intact white a it. Janis (the owners son) gifted us presents and also shouted us lunch and drinks at his cousins restaurant Porto. This was unexpected and completely fabulous-pure greek hospitality. We then walked down and hopped on a little"train" for 6 euro each and explored a little further -it takes you down to a beach where you can hop off if you wish and catch the later train cart back.. All in all a fabulous day, stunning weather and way better experience than Santorini. Read Less

Got a bus near dock to site of Olympic Village for 8 euros return. 45 minute ride through pretty hills and olive groves. Entrance to sit 12 euros. Ruin site large and really impressive. Museum was small but had a lot of artifacts including the famous Hermes and Dionysus sculpture and a Nike winged victory. Only had 2 hours to visit which was not enough - needed 3 hours. Nothing to see in Katakolo. Read Less
