City, Glacier & Shrine  I do not recommend due to deception on whale watching. The 3 hour tour was $300 for the van carrying 11 people plus tip for the driver and we all agreed that it wasnt worth it (see other Cruise Critic post). The City tour was interesting. It rained on us briefly in Juneau but we were allowed only an hour at the Mendenhall Glacier anyway, not enough time to hike an hour to waterfall. Visitors Center accepts National Park annual passes and kids under 16 years are free. An interesting discussion on the glacier is at the Center. Rest of trip was worthless. The Shrine was in use on this Sunday and no whales were seen off the Shrine property as promised. Read Less

Very poor weather so we decided not to take the cable car up the mountain side as previously planned as the visibility from the top was very limited. Enjoyed our wonder round in the rain though!

Narrated van ride through Juneau. The Timberline Trek was closed due to snow on the ground and we did a walk through an old gold mine instead. Took the Mt. Roberts Tram for a spectacular view.

Where the Jewel docked is quite a walk to town. Make sure you take the SHUTTLE. It looks close but you have to go up, around and down a hill to the town. That is the only way and it is not easy if you are not fit. We rented a car from Juneau Rental which is one-half mile from the ship. We were able to disembark, get the car and beat all the buses and traffic to the Mendenhall Glacier. We then drove up to Auke Bay Harbor to see the whales. We did not take the Tram up Mt. Roberts because my wife does not like heights but it is the first thing you come to in town. Read Less

Beautiful town. We could see a long waterfall from the ship, so we headed out to find it. We had about a 4 mile hike and it was worth it! So beautiful, relaxing, quiet. We had the place to ourselves. Checked out the town cemetery, I think the oldest stone we found was 1819 or so. (Yeah, we're weird)We were too early for the salmon run, but heard that this is amazing to see a little later in the summer. Read Less

We had to tender in Juneau. We arrived a little after 1:00 pm. You had to get a tender ticket to get off. They tendered people with scheduled shore excursions first. By the time our tender number was called it was 3:40 pm. There really wasn't anything we wanted to do there as we had been to Juneau before, so we opted to stay on board. People were still just boarding tenders at 4:00 pm. I'm not sure why it was taking so long. Read Less

Well, this was a 'tender' port for us. After waiting for nearly 2 hours to catch a ride to shore, we pooped out, unpacked, and napped before dinner. Didn't get off the ship. But it looked pretty.

take the shuttle bus for $8 to visit Mendenhall Glacier. Very nice and the movie in the visitors bureau is spectacular and $3. Beats the shore excursion.
