Not sure about the town itself (of which we had heard conflicting reports of the vendors there) but we took the Thomson trip - a catamaran sail and snorkel. A great reef exists just off the coast for snorkeling, and then Doctor's Cave Beach was superb - everything you would want from a beach and probably the best on our itinerary. We didn't look forward to our short stop in Jamaica but it was great and the locals we met were all very friendly. Read Less

Quite rough, and some fellow passengers complained of feeling intimidated. Just do what we did, take an organised trip and you'll have no problems.

Montego Bay Roatan.... Beautiful port. We decided we wanted to see the real island. We hired a taxi to show us as much of the island as possible. It was like $60 for us both for the day. We got to see so much of the island. Our Driver Carlos did not speak very much English. But he took excellent care of us. We drove up and down little washed out roads. Saw the most beautiful sites to take scenic pictures. But we also saw the real Rotan.Which was what we wanted. We ended up on a beach front bar with our driver - that never left our side. Was a wonderful experience on this little island. I am glad we didn't do any excursions but what we did was perfect for us and was everything that we wanted. Read Less

Jamaica - We went to Sunset Beach Resort. It was about five minutes from the cruise terminal ($10 cab each way). It's an all inclusive resort and water park. It was $180 for two adults and two kids. The kids had a blast. They had a couple of really fun water slides, big pool, lazy river and a pirate ship. It wasn't very crowed at all and the staff there was all very friendly. Lunch was included as well as all you could drink. The lunch was buffet style and had lots of options. We thought it was really good. The resort was on a beach so we spent some time in the ocean as well. Their beach wasn't the best, but it was fun for the kids. We really went there for the water slides and we weren't disappointed. It's not someplace I'd stay for a week, but for a fun afternoon it can't be beat. I'd definitely recommend it. Read Less

I chose water falls in Jamaica + speed boat (James Bond stylie!). This was a great excursion. The boat was crazy and exciting. We both had a turn to drive it. Upon arrival from the boat the sky opened and rain poured down with thunder storms. Vut we continued to climb the waterfall. Which I thought was a great attitude to it as why not, we were wet anyway. Loads of fun, rain or shine! The only thing I would say is there was a bit of confusion about the shoes you need to climb the waterfall (and believe me you do need them), you can buy them before the climb, but agree a price when you get to the shoe section not on the mini bus that takes you. Probably better to just buy them rather than buy as not much in the price. We found that the stingrays and norse sharks were in the area we started and ended at so if you want to also swim with these you can bring extra money and pay for these while you are there. Try the yummy banana rum and Jamaican coffee, both are delicious. Great experience! Read Less

Our family did the zipline through a local company, Zipline Tours. It was great. A shuttle picked us up at the terminal, drove us about 30 minutes to the tour which was 5 ziplines, then shuttle back to the terminal. I was very nervous but it was so easy and a lot of fun. The staff was very nice. We had a photographer that made us a CD of great pictures for a reasonable price. It was much hotter there than the other ports and quite a bit of climbing so we were all exhausted after but we loved it. I highly recommend it. We were with another family who did it through the ship before and they liked this one much better.   Read Less

The kids and I were adventurous in Montego Bay and went on the zip-line jungle canopy tour here. My husband was feeling a little under the weather and bowed out. It was incredible. Definitely one of those I have to check this off my bucket-list type of things. The tour guide and staff were exceptional. They were clear, professional, and concerned about our safety and giving us the best possible experience. I can't describe the experience and can hardly believe I did it, but I would do it again in a minute and recommend it to anyone. We didn't bring our cameras because we were afraid of losing them, but they have lockers to rent to store your things and a small camera to put in your pocket would have been safe. They take pictures of you for sale - they're overpriced, of course, but a great memento and proof you really did fly through the jungle! After we finished, our tour guide offered to take us to eat, then on a sightseeing tour for shopping, and finally to Margaritaville for an additional $10 per person. That was a great deal because you don't want to go around in Jamaica with just anyone, even in a taxi. He took us to the Pork Pit to eat (that was the place I'd read about online and really wanted to go there.) The jerk chicken and pork was outstanding and very cheap - I highly recommend it!! Then he took us shopping (souvenir type stuff.) The store had good quality items and the prices were better than at the other stores. We ended up at Margaritaville (I just wish we had known more and brought our bathing suits.) The kids and I ended up doing some more shopping and just sightseeing. It was in a resort area, so we were safe. Our guide ended up taking us, tired and happy, back to the ship in plenty of time to get ready for dinner. Read Less

This was our second trip to Montego Bay and both times we went to Sunset Beach. The price jumped from $40 per adult to $60 per adult, but we knew that ahead of time. All kids over 12 will be charged an adult price. I thought that was a little steep for a kid. Children 12 and under were $30. As for Sunset Beach, we like the fact that it's 5 minutes from the ship and a $3 van ride per person each way. Sunset will never be mistaken for a 5 Star resort. To me, it seemed slightly worse for wear than the last time I was there two years ago. It's getting rough around the edges, but still fun. Being in a large group I thought it was the safest and easiest place to go. The grounds for the most part are nice. Big pools, one with a swim up bar. The water park, though fun for kids, had a broken hot tub that a worker told me has been broke for months. I did the "lazy river" a couple of times with a cup of Red Stripe beer in each hand so I was content. Our group played beach volleyball, used the water toys, enjoyed the lunch buffet & grill and learned some dances by the pool. The kids enjoyed the virgin drinks and they spent the day either in the pool or at the beach. The beach itself is not the caliber of Seven Mile Beach or of any of the Mexican beaches. At the far end of the property is actually a nude beach. It's paneled off from the rest of the resort and is nowhere near the kids area. From what I saw, it's not used much. Last time I was there it was empty and this time I saw only two people way off in the distance in their birthday suits. Overall, I'd pay $60 to go back mainly because of the drinks & the buffet. I doubt I'd pay $75 though. I think non-drinkers or light drinkers or families with a lot of young teenagers might want to look elsewhere based on the price. Read Less

We booked Horseback Ride and Swim through Carnival and had a great time. We took a chartered bus to Sandy Bay, a pleasant 30 minute ride along the coast, and arrived at Chukka Village. The guides were great, going out of their way matching horses to riders depending on our age and experience. We went for a leisurely one-hour ride through the countryside and returned to the beach, when the guides replaced the saddles with water pads and allowed us to enter the water in groups of eight. Feeling the warm Caribbean waters was simply wonderful. This was one of the best shore excursions we have ever taken and would gladly taken it again. We returned to Montego Bay and did some shopping at the cruise terminal. The shops offered great deals on liquor, cigarettes, and coffee. From my balcony, I watched the Irie Mon Beach party catamaran return to port and, from what I could see, everybody had a great time. Read Less

We chose not to take the Carnival excursions and give it a go by ourselves. Based on past cruise reviews we took a cab to Doctor's Cave Beach. Cab fare was $5 each one way. The beach is a 5 minute ride from the terminal. I tipped a dollar each person. Come on folks, they're working hard for you! The beach itself is very clean and fun. There are a couple of restaurants behind the beach. I recommend The Groovy Grouper. My wife had conch fritters that were very good, chicken fingers for the kids, and I had Jamaican jerk chicken wings that I'm still licking my fingers over. The best I've ever had! The water is crystal blue and had a few interesting fish swimming around with us. The Jamaican people are very friendly and unlike some people that have reviewed Mo Bay we never felt unsafe. During one swim I noticed a tall skinny local wading waist deep through the surf with a vey large joint that he was puffing away on. He was creating as much smoke as possible, and I believe that was his way of advertising his product, as he approached a few likely buyers and had a discussion with them. He didn't bother me at all. Remember everyone, it's a different lifestyle there regarding pot. Overall this was a great port of call. Read Less
