We just took a taxi from the pier and went to Doctors Cave Beach. It was cloudy that day due to a storm but it was still very pleasant. The bar servers are very nice and helpful, not pushy. There were never any pushy people actually. One man was selling coconuts and we politely said no and he was fine. Another lady selling braids but again she was nice even though we declined. We actually went back and tracked down the man selling coconuts and they were very tasty. We then walked down to the Pork Pit to have some Jerk chicken and pork and it was all very delicious. After that a taxi was there and we headed back to the ship to do some light shopping at the pier. We heard a lot of negative things about Jamaica from people but we have always loved it and will go back again. Read Less

Marvin took care of us with our drinks and lunch. He brought our drinks to us and called us when our lunch was ready. We sat on their huge deck for lunch. They have restrooms and dressing rooms. The water here is beautiful and it was safe with mostly people from the cruise ships in town. Read Less

We went to Bigg's BBQ -- you have to try one of their Bloody Mary's (I had a margarita) - a member of our party had it and I took a picture, practically a meal in itself! We took a local taxi to Doctors Beach and it was fabulous. The sand is smooth and the waters are so clear you don't need a mask. The taxi fair and beach entrance for a family of four was $56.00.

Jamaica was fun. My wife and I took a van taxi with others to Doctors Cave beach and had a very relaxing day. I would recommend renting an umbrella, chair and a float. I sat on the float and my wife used the chair.

We enjoyed eating at Scottchies in Jamaica. Take a taxi and eat everything on the menu as nothing is expensive. Red Stripe is $2 a bottle. Food is smoked and wonderful. When you google it, there are 2 locations in Jamaica and Carnival Magic cruisers are going to the one in Montego Bay. Looks like a dive but it is so neat to eat there! Great place to gather with a group of friends. It is on the highway that is next to the ocean so you don't have to go deep into Jamaica to get there. I don't like to venture off the coast:oThis is the only thing I have enjoyed in Jamaica. My last tour was the croyden plantation and I don't like death defying bus trips up Jamaican mountains. Some do. Read Less

I prefer to book excursions separate from the cruise because #1. It is cost effective and #2. we like to experience as much local color as possible so we try to deal with natives. Anyway, DH and I walked out of the terminal and hopped a JUTA van with 8 other people. Clay was the driver and half the group he dropped at the local beach ($5). We remained on board and he asked if, for $15, would we like to tour Montego Bay? Well, of course! So for the next 1 1/2 hours, Clay drove us up and down the mountainous terrain of Montego Bay and introduced us to the flora and fauna. We stopped at Rose Hall Great House and we saw how the rich live and how the poor just scrape by. It was very interesting. At tour's end, he dropped us in town to do a little shopping. We strode up and down the narrow street as hawkers tried to get us into their shops to buy their souvenirs but we never felt unsafe or threatened in any way. Quite the opposite actually and DH commented on how attractive the Jamaican woman are. He wanted to drop us by the craft market but we politely declined and went straight on to the ship. We left with sweet memories of Jamaica. Yea Mon!!! Read Less

Jamaica was very nice. My friends got seperated from my family and ended up on a bad beach. We went to Doctor's Cave, I highly recommend that. The islanders are like vultures though!

VERY NICE PORT with great shopping opportunities. Clean private beach. This port was my shopping day and I decided to not take an excursion and stay local in the court to get shopping done. There are many reasonable shops and the area is very nice and inviting. There is a separate beach where you can rent canoes, kayaks, swim or just soak up the sun. There is a FAT TUESDAYS in the court area and also a place to have your passports stamped. A small donation is asked with the stamps to assist with upkeep of the area and it appears to be put to good use so far. I enjoyed this stop and if I return will do an excursion as I heard many good things from others. Next time I will do an excursion here. Read Less

My family went to Doctors Cave and it was amazing! It was so clean and had everything you would need! The drinks were reasonable as well I think only 6 dollars per frozen drink! I highly recommend the sand smile. Sooooooo good! After spending a few hours on the beach we went and ate in the restaurant called the Sand Bar, it's right on the beach. My mom, dad, boyfriend and I ate a local favorite Jerked chicken and it was to die for!!! My 13 year old brother got the cheeseburger and fries and he said it was delicious as well! This beach is gorgeous! There are people from the restaurant who walk around the beach and take orders without pressure and deliver your food/drinks right up to you! The only negative was that there were some locals trying to sale seashells, produce, handmade trinkets. etc. but I felt no pressure. I loved Doctos Cave and Highly reccomend it!!!! Read Less

We hired a local, private driver through a friend prior to our cruise. He drove us anywhere that we wanted to go for the day. We started out at Richmond Hill where you can see the ship in the bay with beautiful scenery. Rose Hall is a must-stop if you've never toured the mansion. We also visited a primary school...my daughter and I are in education. That was a treat for us! On previous visits to Jamaica, we've gone on the river rafting on bamboo rafts...FUN! Jamaica is one of my favorite ports, but you have to get away from downtown. It has some beautiful beaches and waterfalls. Read Less

I will sum up what we did in the ports just in case someone is interested, The first was wed at Montego Bay and we went with a group from our roll call to Sunset beach resort and I have to admit it was worth the trip as everyone from the adults to the kids seemed to have a great day! we left and caught a Taxi to the Hip Strip and checked out Margaritaville and did a little shopping then headed back to the ship about 430 that day. We have been to Jamaica a couple of other times and I have to say Montego Bay (for Us) was no where near as bad as Ocho Rios as far as how pushy and dirty etc. we liked both because it is a beautiful and such but to me it was noticeably calmer. We booked a snorkeling tour with Jamaica Water Sports. We snorkeled Airport Reef. Jamaica Water Sports picked us at the port directly behind our cruise ship. The people from Jamaica Water Sports did everything that they could to insure that we had a great time on our snorkeling trip. Airport Reef had plenty of beautiful fish and reefs to see. Airport Reef also has a Maho Beach type of feel because of the huge jets that are landing directly overhead you while you snorkel or sun on the catamaran. Great fun! Read Less

We did not use Carnival to book an excursion for Jamaica. Do your self a favor and contact Carolyn Barrett at Barrett Adventures. She was recommended by a friend who had taken this tour previously. We asked for something off the beaten path and something that a all of us could do (due to the wide age difference). Man did she deliver. Shawn (our driver) is spectacular and if you decide to go this route, see if you can get Shawn. We had the van to ourselves. We drove about 1.5 hours through the mountains and went to YZ falls - it is beautiful and out in the middle of nowhere. We rope swung and jumped off the falls and swam in a natural pool. It was refreshing and beautiful. They took us to lunch at a place that was a restaurant by the sea and we were the only epeople there. IT WAS THE BEST MEAL OF THE TRIP!!!! I do not know the name of the place but they served us fried chicken, marinated pork stew, balck beans and rice and cole slaw-type thing. BY FAR, THIS WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE JAMAICA EXPERIENCE FOR ME. These people had very little but set up out table with the best they had and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The server was about 16 and so sweet and tried so hard to serve us "western" style. I will never forget that expereince (although I forgot the name). After that, we toured the Black River. It was a neat experience and went into a mangrove area that was beautiful. Jamaica was really great. I highly recommend getting off the beaten path if you can - there are certain risks associated with that, though. The small towns you go through can break your heart because of the poverty level. TRUST ME - ASK FOR SHAWN. Read Less
