We have been to Ocho Rios, but never Montego Bay before and were really excited! Great weather and beautiful water of course. We found a van taking tourists to Doctor's Cave Beach for $5/pp and got on.I would recommend taking a cab instead of a van if you are going to the "Hip Strip." Same price but quicker. The van waited to fill up past capacity, then as soon as we were moving they informed up that first we would be stopping to "shop." The entire van protested luckily, so on we went to Doctor's Cave Beach. It is $6/pp to enter the beach. We didn't rent chairs, we just used towels to lay on. We took a glass bottom boat with a few others for $20/pp (operated by locals)once we got to the beach. It was nice and relaxing and lasted about an hour. Be prepared to be hassled constantly. If you don't want a bracelet, don't let them just come up to you and tie it on your wrist. I was half asleep on the beach when I was awoken to a man saying "respect" and tying a bracelet on my wrist. You will also be asked to buy joints over and over. Be careful, there is police on the beach, and locals make more money by selling you a joint then turning you in.The "Hip Strip" wasn't very "hip." We prefered Ocho Rios, but it was still beautiful here and the people friendly. Would go back, but not a favorite. Read Less

We took a 12 minute taxi shuttle ride to Doctor's Cave Beach which cost $5 per person. The entry fee was $6 (cash only). We rented an umbrella and two chairs which were $6 each for the day. The wood chairs are old and uncomfortable. The water was beautiful, clear, and the perfect temperature! I was afraid the water would be too warm and not refreshing, but it was just right. We snorkeled around the pier and it was wonderful. The calm water is so clear and there are lots of fish. The Bar and outside restaurant was a bit pricy, a large hamburger and fries was around $10, but tasted good. Anytime you want to leave, there are dozens of taxi shuttles waiting to take you back to the ship. Be sure and tell them exactly what ship and terminal you are going to! We would visit here again. We were floating in tubes down the river for an hour and a half, which was too long for our young kids. The tubing guide also tried to demand that my husband double the tip ($20) that he offered. It was a bit creepy. After the tubing we went to Aquasol beach. It was ok but not a very big beach and we had to pay admission. Read Less

We spent most of our day on the Hip Strip, which was not quite what I expected (I had never been to Jamaica before). Lots of friendly but aggressive shopkeepers who will follow you around the store and tell you everything is on sale and their prices are the lowest. Doctors Cave Beach Club was nice but will cost you $18 for entrance for two adults and an umbrella. Most of the cab drivers that hang around on the street will offer you a ride and then some weed. There was not enough time for an excursion or to make a judgment about Jamaica. I feel that I would like to return and see what it is all about. The beach was certainty beautiful and the people were good natured and friendly.

We booked the Mystic Mountain Sky Explorer/Bob-sled/Zip-Line excursion outside of Carnival through Jaital (saving $35 over carnival). They handled everything smoothly and even helped us with a booking mistake. They answered all phone calls and emails quickly and were very helpful. We were going to be docking about 3 hours later than before so I called the day before and was assured that they knew about it and would be waiting for us when we got there. Getting off the ship was easy, but once we came through the port building, we were bombarded by companies wanting us to go with them. They assured me they could take us to Mystic Mountain, but I insisted on looking for our driver and was finally directed to him by a port guard. Our driver Nicholas was fantastic. His Jamaican charm showed the entire time. He was always mindful of our schedule and made sure we felt welcome the whole time. We landed in Montego Bay but had to drive 1.5 hrs to Ocho Rios. The drive gave Nicholas an opportunity to show us through Jamaica filling our heads with useful information and funny stories about his homeland. The drive sometime was a little crazy but he assured us he was under control and would protect us like his own children. When we arrived, he got his payment from us and then checked us in. We went up the sky Explorer to the top of the mountain. What a view! Ocean on one side, jungle on the other. Breathtaking. Very high up and they had to stop it sometimes to load passengers or cargo. But the view kept me captivated. Then we went down the bobsled. A very fast ride. It was fast, but I could have gone slower with the brake if I had wanted to. My wife and I went tandem and had a blast. Then back on the sky explorer back to the top. Their we went to the zip-lines. Very little instruction, but we were safe the entire time. These guys knew how to have fun and to keep us safe. We enjoyed the zip-lines which included a vertical drop as well that took our breath away. They stop you with a brake and I never once had any worries. Then we went back up the sky explorer to the top for a little shopping. Prices were good. They also had a pool, slide and lazy river as well, but we didn't have time for this or to eat at the restaurant. When we came down the mountain Nicholas was waiting. He took us to a store to get some keepsakes and then got us to the port with 15 minutes to spare. A full day and well planned and spent! Read Less

This was our second time in Jamaica. The country is very poor but the landscape is beautiful. Please see my review about our experience with the Jamaican bus driver. Our first experience was walking on a street in Jamaica near the port. We were asked if we wanted a taxi. When we replied "No, thank you", we were told that we were too fat and needed to walk anyway. This was very rude, to say the least. This kind of gave us a bad impression of Jamaica. Read Less

For our day in Montego Bay, we chose the Seawinds Family All-Inclusive Beach Day. We really enjoyed the day, but it was our least favorite of the three excursions. The resort was beautiful, and we enjoyed the sailboat and kayaking. Since only non-motorized watercraft are included in the price, it would have been nice if there had been more options. Something as simple as inner tubes for floating on the ocean would have been a nice addition. Also, only one bar was open. The one closest to the pool was closed, as was the swim-up bar which was disappointing. We would have also enjoyed a greater selection of souvenir shops on the premises. Also, the description on the website stated "enjoy the lively Jamaican entertainment" which implies some sort of live music. What we got was piped-in recorded music, which was a great disappointment. We went horseback riding in Jamaica and booked through Carnival. It took forever to leave the terminal but once we did, it was fun. The bus driver was very amusing and informative. He dropped us off at the horse farm and we had some time to get a locker for our things before we received our helmet and got on our horses. The ride was enjoyable and very scenic. Our guide was very talkative and friendly. Each guide only had a few people so we got to chat with ours all the way. Once we got back, we had a minute to change into our swim suits and got to ride a short distance in the ocean. I kinda felt bad for our horses. They didn't seem to like going in the water much at all. We went back and gathered up our things and got back on the bus. Once we got back to the terminal, we decided to check out Margaritaville. Not impressed at all. Apparently there were very young girls(like 14) upstairs and really drunk. I just wonder where there parents were. My kids stayed with me all times we were at port. I didn't even want my 18 year old to go off without me in a foreign country. It might have been better if it weren't raining. We didn't stay long and went shopping a little ways down the road. If I did it again, I would have just done the excursion then went to the cruise terminal to shop then back to the ship. Read Less

This was our second visit to Jamaica. We enjoyed it this time a little more. We decided to pick a ship excursion to an all-inclusive resort for the day. It was very close to the port and was a pretty good experience. I believe the excursion was called Sewinds. The staff at Seawinds were all very accommodating and we feel like we ate and drank enough to justify the $100/person. Not much to see if you want to snorkel from this beach area. We have taken a Dunns River Falls excursion before and would not pick it again, unless staying in Jamaica. It seemed like everyone in the world picked that excursion as the Falls were so packed! You also spend about 3 hours in a bus (1.5 each way) which is not my idea of fun. I would really have liked to visit the Rose Hall plantation. I ordered a book on Amazon called Rose Hall's White Witch to learn more about Annie Palmer who was a plantation owner back in the 1800's. After finishing the story, I wish we would have taken that excursion. Jamaica is not a very safe place to just walk around and do your own thing, so if you plan on an excursion during your trip; definitely do one in Jamaica. Read Less

We went river rafting on the Martha Brae excursion, we enjoyed being on the river, so peaceful, we had a lovely raft captain Murphy, who gave us all the information on the wildlife that was needed. On the down side, we did not like the unexpected stop before we got to the river, to a church in the middle of a shanty town, and the stop back from the river to as flea market, we seemed to be killing time, for whatever reason best known to the guide. We did hassled in the market which is not very pleasant. Read Less
