The Viking Ocean Cruise "Nordic Explorer" was in a word fantastic! Every destination tour was very informative and fun. The restaurants on board were delightful with a gourmet dinner with wine every night. The destinations included all the major cities of the continent, all with local guides that where adept with local history and color. The entire staff were very personable and knowledgeable. ...
We chose the cruise primarily because of its itinerary - Istanbul, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and Venice. Due to terrorist events in Istanbul, the Viking Sea embarked early, but Viking arranged satisfactory port alternatives. We appreciated their concern for our safety. Security was always taken seriously. Fortunately for us, we had arranged for several days of private touring in Istanbul ...
We have been on numerous cruises on many different lines, and we think Viking tops them all. Embarkation was inviting, efficient, and organized. Tours at every port were on time, well-led by absolutely outstanding tour guides and well-organized. I keep saying organized, but Viking never leaves a passenger wondering or wandering. Guides in the ports are clearly marked. Embarkation and ...
My wife and I had been wanting to do a cruise. We didn't favour the large floating hotels, but rather the smaller cruise ships. We were attracted to the Viking line with its fine reputation and we had a desire to visit the cities of Venice and Istanbul. Then we found the Viking Ocean cruise, The Empires of the Mediterranean, 10 days, sailing between Venice and Istabul. Our cruise was to start in ...
We chose this cruise because of the many destinations we had wanted to see, and this one checked off a lot of them. We were lucky enough to go into Istanbul 4 days early, probably one of the last cruises going in there. We booked our pre-trip seperately from the cruise line. It was wonderful, and we hope that Istanbul and the rest of Turkey get back to some terrific tourism! A gorgeous and ...
It was a Viking cruise! We had previously traveled on a Viking River Cruise, and when we learned that Viking was starting up an ocean cruise, we jumped on board. We selected the Eastern Mediterranean since the ports of call seemed so interesting to us. Our departure city was Istanbul and we were to have explored that city before setting sail. However, and this is to Viking's credit, due to ...
We had always wanted to visit Turkey, Greece and the Dalmatian coast, and this Viking cruise from Istanbul to Venice gave us that and more. The brand-new Viking Star is an extraordinarily beautiful and comfortable ship. The courteous, friendly and cheerful staff gave us five star service every moment of every day.
We had been a bit nervous about being among 900 passengers, worrying that we ...
Viking Star
Read about it in the brochure and online. Empire cruise was actually 4 legs combined sequentially from Istanbul to Stockholm. What a trip! I can only say WOW! Service and food was exceptional. Staff was most attentive, friendly, and was hard to say goodbye after getting to know them over the 50 days. Staterooms were great with balconies and nice modern bathrooms.
However, nothing ...
This was our first 'ocean' cruise. We had avoided cruises because of the size of the ships and the impression we had of people being herded. The Viking Star was a great size - only about 800 people on our cruise. We began with the pre-cruise extension to Gallipoli and Troy. First class accommodations and an excellent guide. We were unable to go back to Istanbul. Viking had made the wise decision ...
This was a 50 day Viking cruise that covered 18 countries and 36 ports. I was one that thought 50 days was to long but in the end it was great.
Would recommend this to any one that had the time and money to do it.
We were not nickeled and dine at all everything we could have ask for and more.
We booked another cruise for 15 days while on this cruise.
The ship was new so everything ...
