The ship tenders to shore. Despite this being a very small town, a few good museums are located here. Visit the Hevrsdagssafn – Museum of Everyday Life, located at Hafnarstraeti 5. It provides an inside look of life in Iceland.

A quiet place. The tour was interesting especially about how the fishing used to take place.. the music performance was acceptable but a little disappointing as were expecting to see Schoolchildren performing and it was their teacher.

This was, to us, one of the most beautiful places we've ever visited, but to some it seemed bleak and unattractive. It's all snowy peaks, deep fjords, mossy rocks and tiny fishing villages. We were fortunated to have a marine life student as our guide, and I think his love of the area spilled over on to us. It's an area we'll return to,one day. Read Less

We booked a private tour with Wild Westfjords tours. Our guide Herbert is a native of Isafjordur, and had many stories that only locals would know. The town is somewhat new to tourism.

Vigur Isalnd was our chosen tour - spectacular bird life - boat trip of about 40 minutes on fast boat, spotted a whale. Birds include Puffins, Arctic Terns, Eider Ducks, Storm Petrels etc - highly recommended but only lasted 31/2 hours.

We simply walked around town.. Isafjord is an unpolished diamond.. it is not over commercialised to take advantage of tourists. It is what it is. I felt that it was a privilege to be able to simply walk around this interesting village. There is free WiFi in the village centre pastry/bakery shop. The food is excellent! Highly recommend that if one wants to catch up with one's emails that one takes to time enjoy this wonderful bakery. Read Less

I took a Holland America tour to Vigur Island. It was really a nice place with lots of birds including puffins, but it was too uneven for me to do the tour with the guide. The boat ride was good, though a little chilly if you want to sit outside, the views were nice and I saw whales and puffins on the way. Off the dock, the trail is made with very large rocks, which is where I fell and realized I could not make it by myself walking with a walking stick, so I hung around and watched the birds close by, still able to find a place to watch the puffins. The others did a walk around the island on a mostly grassy path- I probably could have made it- but they went to one end of the island where arctic terns divebombed them and made it uncomfortable. A really great tour to get back to nature, and it was nice talking to the duck down farmers. Read Less
