As the cruise critic system fails to recognise Ishigaki Island as a port, we mention that we took the excursion Highlights of Ishigaki which was informative and interesting, particularly the pearl farms at Kabirawan. At Hualien we took the excursion Taroko Gorge and Temples which we enjoyed immensely . This was a full day excursion which worked well as it involved bus travel into the mountains, walking and a fully catered lunch at a hotel in the mountains Read Less

I did the Taroko Gorge tour. The gorge was beautiful though I was expecting more of a hike through the park rather than a bus tour with a few photo stops.

Ship excursion to Taroko Gorge which was immense. Extremely informative Swiss tour guide who spoke great English. VIews in the gorge were amazing. THe stop at some massive pottery place on the return could have been missed.

Don't let the drab port fool you! The small city is just a few miles away. Great shopping, check out any festivals when you're in port if there are any!

Taroko National Park: Bulowan, Swallow's Grotto, Eternal Spring Shrine Took taxi (~$8 USD) from Port to the main public Bus Station. This public shuttle bus runs all the way to Tiansiang and you can get off and on at about 10 different stops between there and the main Taroko Visitor Center. It runs approximately every hour from about 8:00 to 17:00 [though not on the hour], NT$250 per person unlimited hop on hop off. **ADVICE** A taxi gal bargained with us at the public bus station and offered us 6 hours of service any stops, anywhere in Taroko area for NT $2,000. She eventually lowered down to NT $1,700. If you're able to bargain a 6 hour taxi service for this price, TAKE IT! The shuttle was great but each time you hop off, you're committing to ~40-70 minutes at each stop until the next shuttle comes through. Read Less
