I kicked around town a little, then returned to the ship and had a nice jacuzzi, instead of taking a Read Less

Free shuttle into the center of town. Went and saw an old church right off the bus stop, and then saw a small craft fair behind the church with locals selling random items. Wife bought a painted rock of an arch. Didn't do much more in this port except pub hop, went to Stanley Arms, Gleesons, and Georges. All were good pubs with small beer gardens, with Georges having on that looked out over the road and into the port. Read Less

Holyhead itself has little to offer. We took a private tour with BusyBus to Snowdonia. Beautiful countryside, mountains, waterfalls and lots of sheep! The guide was really good, informative and entertaining.

Arranged a private tour with John Hadwin of Boutique Tours of North Wales. He was amazing and we cannot recommend him highly enough. The weather was dicey, but he knows the local weather patterns and got us to Snowdonia just as the mist cleared. We had a wonderful tour of Carnarvon Castle, a local winery where we met the owner and had a lovely lunch and beautiful view after beautiful view because John knows all the hidden places and can get into them in a way no big bus could. We booked with a private operator - Boutique Tours of North Wales. We had used them before at Liverpool and they have a very comfy and spacious touring vehicle - Mercedes Viano van that can seat 6. Does tours of The Snowdonia National Park, with steam train ride and you get to see more with the content and routes they travel. They also take you to the medieval Castles at Caernarfon and Beaumaris and in Conwy they take you on a walk around the medieval town walls. Their tours are good quality and well timed. We were recommended by friends who used them in Liverpool and they ware very reliable and the day is well organised. The owner used to work for Cunard Line, so he knows how to handle cruise passengers. So if you want a private tour in style, Boutique Tours will hit the mark for you - just make sure you book early as he gets booked up 6 to 9 months in advance and we were lucky to use his services due to a cancellation from clients who withdraw due to illness.
