a failure of luxury

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Explora I

With very high expectations I joined the Explora I in Hamburg for a 12 days cruise to Glasgow. After the usual embarkation paperwork was done , I was able to go on board however contrarely to most " luxury ships " there were no single assistants to carry the hand luggage on board and the way to the gangway at the Altona terminal is rather steep. For a " luxury" ship Explora I is quite a big ...

Not what I expected from Cunard

Review for a Baltic Sea Cruise on Queen Mary 2 (QM2)

We chose this cruise because friends who live in the USA were boarding in New York and it was an ideal opportunity to meet up with them. The QM 2 is looking really tired but one can excuse that to some extent. We made a late booking so couldn’t get the cabin of our choice but really nothing to complain about our sheltered balcony cabin, plenty of storage and a comfy bed, our housekeeper, Hugo was ...

MSC DID WELL: the nightly entertainment was excellent. Jennifer Tierney had such a powerful voice. The ship singers and dancers were superb and well choreographed. The 3 tenors performance was exceptional. The room stewards and main dining room staff worked very hard to ensure we were well looked after. The pizza in the buffet was incredible...dare I say...addictive. I have lots of new weight I ...

Ship is nice and comfortable

We chose hurtigruten cruise because of the destination - Iceland, and past experience with Norwegian coastal voyage. Unfortunately, while the ship is great, our outside cabin is specious with lots of storage, the human component is the Disaster! Starting with the ship docking in the different port from what we have been advised by hurtigruten. Hurtigruten made no attempt to contact anyone ...

Low Price at a Cost

We were excited to see this cruise priced extremely low. We ended up paying in TOTAL $580 for 2 people for the cruise, gratuities included. We are from the US and flew out to Hamburg to depart. Boarding the ship was fairly quick and easy. The ports: We had to exit the ship about 1 1/2 hours later than anticipated in Rotterdam which did stress us out as we had the shortest time allotment at ...

Lots of Problems; Will We be Back?

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Queen Mary 2 (QM2)

We have always said that we love the crossings and love the QM2. Indeed we have crossed the Atlantic about 13 times on the QM2. But the serious issues with this crossing make us wonder if we are making a poor choice and whether we will ever return. We did love the Chart Room and spent many hours there listening to delightful music and receiving excellent service. But hours spent in one bar ...

The ship was beautiful but not many windows in bars and coffee shops. The staff were hit and miss many of them could not speak English , some were just plain rude. The food was mediocre no where near as much choice as other cruise lines . Ice cream was chargeable so was cinema bowling etc. the daily activities were sparse . We travelled with a five and a six year old who only went to the ...

This was our third Queen Mary 2 cruise and our 145 total cruise. After our first QM2 crossing my wife and I were determined not to repeat using it. However wanted to go for 6 weeks to Germany and Cnard was th3 only one taken us to Germany and back to New York with 6 weeks in Europe. We took the QM2 to Hamburg in September, again with reservations. Well, what a surprise, the staff, the ...

Beautiful Ship but Disappointing Experience

My husband I were on MSC Preziosa for the 11-night Northern Europe cruise (May 26 - June 6). We picked this cruise because of the itinerary which included Hamburg, cities in Scotland and Iceland. The ship interior was beautiful and the public area was clean. This was our first cruise with MSC. We have cruised over 10 times with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian. We were disappointed by MSC ...

Poor Customer Service

We chose this cruise for the destinations. Those did not disappoint. However our experience with the staff was unpleasant at best. For example, 1. In the wine bar, we asked our server for a napkin to wipe our table from a previous occupants spill and we were told we had to go to another bar to get one. When we did, it was closed. 2. We bought an expensive drink package and were ...
