This is a very lush and hilly island. We took a private taxi tour with Cruise Critic friends to Seven Sisters and hiked in to the waterfalls. We left the port early and got there before the crowds. If you can walk on rocks, through water, and hike up and down hills it's worth doing at least once! We spent the afternoon at Grand Anse beach which was not very crowded but very pretty. Leave the driving on this island to someone else. The roads are narrow, twisty and crowded. Read Less

Came out of port and plenty of taxis offering trips. Went on 3 hour island tour with 2 other couples, $20 each, a lot cheaper than Thomson tour. Was good, explained all about the island, took us to small spice place where they explained about all the spices and you could buy some; then up to the Annandale Falls; then to Grand Etang Lake viewing point where you learn about the island and see monkeys, there are a couple of cafe bars there too. Also went up to old English Fort Frederick then down to Grand Anse beach, which looked gorgeous and would have been even more so if it was sunny. Was good value for money. Shame it was raining but that's what makes this beautiful island green I guess! Read Less

The spice plant and plantation were interesting. We were allowed to sniff them all. After a while, I wondered if we would have to go into rehab. The Concord falls was beautiful, even though the more massive falls were upstream and would have required an hour long hike with a guide. The tour allowed us to see several villages and much lush terrain. There were several "sleeping policemen" on the roads also known as speed bumps. We were shown where the Marines landed during the intervention of the 80s. A regime supported by Cuba had taken over government and assassinated the PM Maurice Bishop and several others including children. After the excursion, we walked up the hill to the castle overlooking the city (I think that is where Clint Eastwood and the Marines were) and the guide showed us the bullet holes in the flagpole and wall where the people were lined up and shot. A beautiful place, but really we only had five hours there....from renting the beach chairs and paying for overpriced drinks, could have just enjoyed the pier and shopping in the dock area.

We went to Magazine Beach, which was beautiful. The Aquarium restaurant was nearby and a nice place, it seemed to eat (we didn't) but we did have great drinks there. We also went to Ft. George which was not great--the tour guide gave a short history but spent more time talking about spices. Shopping at Dot's for Spices was a great choice and I highly recommend her shop! Read Less

This was my very favorite day on the whole cruise and it was all because we hired a private guide and had the time of our lives!! We contacted Henry's Safari Tours in Grenada and I asked for a private guide and they hooked us up with a wonderful gentleman for $180. He was waiting for us in a little building/mall that you go through after you get off the boat. He had a sign with our name and we just hopped in his big van and off we went. We first went to Seven Sisters Falls. It is quite a hike! Down and up steep places, VERY muddy and messy. TAKE the walking stick they offer at the beginning of the hike. I usually hate those but it was indispensable on this hike. We were the only people on the trail - because we got going so early. When we got to the falls we had them all to ourselves. It was so romantic and fun! He just sat off to the side and we played and played. It was gorgeous. We had so much fun. My husband jumped off the second waterfall into the pool below. The guide wasn't real supportive of that but he didn't try and stop us either. Then we took a little side trail (if you could call it a trail - it was obviously very rarely used) to Honeymoon Falls. There is one part where you have to hike through the stream, and climb UP a waterfall to get to Honeymoon Falls. We didn't swim there as the pool is very small and there were two dead trees laying in it. But it was beautiful. There is no way you could find this on your own. On our way back out of the falls we ran into the ship sponsered shore excursion. Oh my word!! There were about 50 people (no joke) and they were going so slow it would have driven me crazy! And they were barely getting started on the hike when we were on our way out around 11am!! They weren't going to get to stay long at the pools and they would have to share them with the other 50 people! We were SO SO glad we did the private tour. After the hike the guide took us to a little spice stand off somewhere. There are tons of these everywhere, but this one was special because the woman who owned it had all the spice trees/plants right there by her stall. She did a little presentation about the spices and then walked around and showed us all the different trees. It was fascinating to see cinnamon trees, and clove trees, and cocoa trees, and ginger plants, etc. I then bought some spices from them. Then the driver took us back into town and I asked him to drop us off in the shopping area (there isn't much) and we walked back to the ship. It was a perfect day! Read Less

I can't rate this port because the weather and limited hours in port prevented us from doing much. We took a water taxi to the Grand Anse beach, which looked beautiful but wasn't very enjoyable at 11:00 on a cloudy day.

Grenada was a real contrast to Barbados. They have suffered a couple of hurricanes recently and have not recovered from the damage. Grenada is known for spices and most of the nutmeg trees were destroyed. The new ones are just now beginning to bear fruit. They also had a revolution (we saw where the US Marines landed) which really damaged their economy. We did a tour, West Grenada Mountain Rainforest, which was beautiful, but frustrating because everything was so crowded. We stopped at an old spice plantation, Grand Etang Reserve, Annandale Falls, and Fort Frederick. The island is hilly and green. Read Less

It was Grand Anse again for us, the fourth time there. It was nice but we definitely are ready for a change. It's a pretty beach but we always get the feeling we are getting ripped off. They quote a price then double it and also quote a price for the sun chairs and charge more for an umbrella. It cost us about $52 for a few hours. We will do some research for next March. Read Less

Interesting port and very easy to explore on foot near the ship. We had some interesting experiences visiting a small museum near the terminal, walking to the St Georges centre and under the Fort. The poeple were very friendly and not at all intimidating to us, with a well organized greeting system and access to water taxis to take us to the beach. Grand Anse Beach was crowded , and we sat at a quieter end where DH did some snorkling. In laws enjoyed the Spice market and purchased spice necklaces. A surprisingly enjoyable port. Read Less
