Probably our favorite port. One elderly man summed it up when he said it was his civic duty to make sure we enjoyed our visit. Everyone was so helpful and willing to share information about their wonderful island.

I stayed on the ship during this one, but my husband, father, and friend, got off the ship. They toured the different Forts throughout the island and walked around a lot. They booked an excursion with a local, NOT with Princess.

Our tour Grand Etang, Annadale Falls & Fort Fredick took us through the towns & villages then stopping at the Dougladston Spice Factory and Ford Fredrick. Then we traveled on the the falls.

-- We took the Best of Grenada Tour. The Grenada tour made three stops without much substance. This driver was definitely not "Mandoo". He didn't even try to attract a monkey up at Grand Etang NP. We toured a spice factory. The viewpoints they stopped at were usually obstructed by wiring. Be sure to tip the improvisational Calypso singers up at Grand Etang or you will find yourself in one of their songs (smile). I'd probably stay on the ship the next time we visit this island. First time there - took a tour inland along some very bumpy roads - the island reminded us of Dominica. The crater lake is a small pond but the monkeys are a blast. Bought tons of vanilla and all the fresh spices.

Grenada, was interesting and they have finally recovered mostly from the 2004 storm. The beaches we went to had no fish swimming in the water therefore, not much to see if snorkeling. There is a local Catholic Church that the roof was blown off due to the storm in 2004 that was refurbished by the local pastor Father Carroll whom we met at the church. He is an old school Irish priest who was a joy to talk to about the church and island. The local walk on the water front was interesting but the island is quite hilly "steep" so besure to wear shoes. I would suggest taking a boat tour and enjoy the water around the island. Read Less

Took the island tour, what a great island full of spice and fruits. If you time your visit right to Etang park you can see the Mona Monkeys and fee them bananas!

Once again toured the island with a local driver, he was so informative and stopped at all the sights that the other "tours" stopped at. We paid a lot less doing it on our own and had no trouble booking someone

Grenada is a VERY poor country that is also still rebuilding from recent hurricane damage (Ivan). The people were friendly and the beach (Grand Anse beach) was beautiful, but much of what we saw was very depressing and sad. The country is known for its spices and I am glad that we had a taxi tour (we did NOT use any of the cruisetour packages) that stopped at a spice stand. WE purchased prepackaged spices that we were able to bring home (make sure that any spices you buy are SEALED or they will be confiscated at the airport). Our tour did include the waterfall - which is beautiful, but again, there were a lot of local vendors including two guys who wanted paid to climb up to the top of the waterfall and jump off. It can be intimidating if you are a female traveling alone. Read Less

Port is not particularly appealing, but Grenada needs our support to continue recovering from a hurricane several years ago.

We didn't find much to appreciate in Grenada. We made the hike up to the fort, then walked the bay front. There was actually another lady and her daughter who joined up with us on the bay front (after the walk through that tunnel.... you'll know once you try that one!) because they were nervous with the lack of people, the pushy taxi drivers who about throw you into the cab to get their fare, and the general feeling of the area. Might be a great place and we just chose the wrong direction to tour, but won't be on our return highlight tour! Read Less

We've been to Grenada many times, it's one of those stops on almost every itinerary we've taken. It's a nice island but you really need to go on an excursion and preferably with the cruise line since the islanders are very pushy trying to sell you everything from goods to excursions but a firm "no thanks" does the trick but if you buy just one thing you open the door to all the vendors so don't buy until you know what you want and are going back onto the ship! We spent the day on the Mome Rouge beach, very nice, one restaurant but fine with good food. Read Less

This is a very lush and hilly island. We took a private taxi tour with Cruise Critic friends to Seven Sisters and hiked in to the waterfalls. We left the port early and got there before the crowds. If you can walk on rocks, through water, and hike up and down hills it's worth doing at least once! We spent the afternoon at Grand Anse beach which was not very crowded but very pretty. Leave the driving on this island to someone else. The roads are narrow, twisty and crowded. Read Less

Came out of port and plenty of taxis offering trips. Went on 3 hour island tour with 2 other couples, $20 each, a lot cheaper than Thomson tour. Was good, explained all about the island, took us to small spice place where they explained about all the spices and you could buy some; then up to the Annandale Falls; then to Grand Etang Lake viewing point where you learn about the island and see monkeys, there are a couple of cafe bars there too. Also went up to old English Fort Frederick then down to Grand Anse beach, which looked gorgeous and would have been even more so if it was sunny. Was good value for money. Shame it was raining but that's what makes this beautiful island green I guess! Read Less
