Galveston is great. The food -- from seafood to Italian to Thai -- is outstanding. (Interestingly, back in the 1930's, the Mafia had a big presence in Galveston. As a result, here are some excellent Italian restaurants -- try Maceo's Spice Shop and Deli. ) The town is full of history. Shopping in The Strand (downtown) is fun. The harbor tours are interesting. Galveston is a nice pre or post cruise stay with museums and great restaurants. The Tremont Hotel is near the port and convenient to the historic downtown. Interesting sights are Bishop's Palace and the Bryan Museum. The San Luis Resort is located on Seawall Blvd and another upscale choice for a place to stay. ...
