'We took the Panama 'Canal Railway train from Fuerte Amador, Panama City, through the countryside to the new locks and watched some ships transit. Time to see a small film on the canal and tour around the new locks was fun.

We did the Panama City tour. Although we had an excellent guide it just easn’t That interesting to sit in bus and drive around the city. Once we got out to see the old colonial city it was go, go, go to visit one church after another. Once again would have preferred to just go to old city and leisurely walk around. Read Less

Monkey Island Tour- Got to see a number of animals and birds, but once again the guides were not as knowledgeable about the birds we were seeing. The habituated Capuchins were great to see.

We took a hop on hop off bus and toured the city. It was pretty along the waterfront and we were surprised at the city skyscrapers.

We took the train to the new locks, then the bus back. This was actually my least favorite of the trips, but it was still good. We had spent the extra for the dome car (and I don't think it was worth it). The seating was very tight, especially for modern Cruise Ship sized people, but I spent most of the time on the open deck and enjoyed the scenery. The rain forest zips by pretty quick, though, and there wasn't much in the way of birds or animals to see. I enjoyed the time at the new locks, watching a tanker transit through, but the bus ride back to the port was long and the countryside largely uninteresting. Read Less

We went through the Miraflores locks again. The cruise was a bit disorganised at the start with the captain, Canal pilot and food for lunch all arriving an hour late. The guide was nice but very difficult to understand. Food was poor.

Our guide was not as interested in making sure we could hear her clearly nor did she seem all that excited to be showing us her city. Her voice was not that strong and she didn't wait for people to gather around before she started talking. There wasn't much time for souvenir shopping, even though we passed several shops. Beware the toilet facilities; in one place, the toilet did not flush and there was no toilet paper. Only a 20-minute stop for restroom, shopping and visiting a lookout point Read Less

The train ride along Gatun Lake was comfortable, but the best part was seeing a ship going through the new locks...very different from the old locks which we went through in our Princess ship.

To see the entrance of the Panama Canal was a thrill. Our fast paced tour of Panama City was difficult in the heat. Walking was difficult on uneven pavement.

We went on the Monkey and Wildlife Nature Cruise. Tour guide was very knowledgeable, we saw three monkey species and a lot of fauna. The trip back was alongside the canal and we had a great view of several ships traversing the canal.

Here we took a ships excursion to the Embera Village. This was an amazing highlight for me! Imagine stepping back in time to a pristine river with a village of people from 100s( or maybe 1000s ) of years ago! This was NOT a Disney production but a reall life picture of another culture , another lifestyle that is disappearing! We ate, danced, learned about food and life and shopped for gorgeous handmade goods! I HIGHLY recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn about a way to live outside of modern life!
