Fun for shopping, didn't go to any beaches, and didn't do any excursions. If you did all that stuff, you may like this port more! It was good, but not as good as Nassau!

Outside of seeing family in Port Canaveral, this was our FAVORITE port. We did the Lucayan National Forest Adventure. We booked through Carnival. We had a ride to the "Forest", a short class on kayaking, then we kayaked for 2 1/2 miles in a controlled environment. It was awesome! It was our first time kayaking and we were laughing so hard that we could barely paddle. We kept getting stuck on trees (as the others did lol) and then we got stuck on a sand bar that the guide had warned us to stay away from (I guess we were laughing). And then it happened...we tipped halfway in to the water lol It was only about 3 feet deep and only got a little bit of water in the boat. After this, our guide took us on a nature walk. Well, we were all speechless! The trailed opened to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! We were told it's one of the top beaches in the World! We were provided lunch (and joined by a friendly raccoon!) I actually fed him, he was very cute! Then we went to two different caves. It was a longggg day, but OH SO WORTH IT!!! We had a tremendously, GREAT TIME!!! Read Less

There weren't too many people on the beach, and we took lots of pictures. We had an awesome time, just relaxing and playing in the surf. The water wasn't too bad, however, we were a little cold at first. Read Less

We again took a $10 (round trip) taxi tour around Freeport, learned alot about how the city is progressing (which we enjoyed). We then were taken to the shopping area which was more like a bazaar. Lots of anything who could possible want to buy...fine jewelry, Bahamian jewelry and clothing, souvenirs from t-shirts to hats to shoes, purses. The same tour purchased from the cruise ship was far, far more to be taken to the same place. Read Less

We really had no idea what to do here, since I had read such negative reviews on this port. WE LOVED the Island and wish we had more time there. The four of us found a cab to take us around. We paid $25 each (less than the ship's price) and got a wonderful driver - Spencer for Hire is what he said his name was. He showed us the bad and the good. The poor and the rich. What an eye opener. The island is beautiful and the people are friendlier there. We also stopped at Lucaya to shop - the typical shopping village for tourists, and Spencer waited for us for an hour. There was none of that badgering from the sales people and we felt no pressure there. We did not have time to go over to the beaches, but I hear they are beautiful. Maybe next time, because I do hope to visit again. I would go to Freeport over Nassau any day. Read Less

Arrived at 9am, got off ship at 11am, caught cab to Old Lucaya, did some shopping at the straw market (same stuff as Nassau but more expensive), and searched all around for the Sand Dollar tour. Finally looked near the piers and Capt Tony found us. Not sure how he stays in business. 2 other couples also came on the cruise. We all enjoyed snorkeling for a couple of hours at treasure reef and saw tons of colorful fish. They didn't have fins smaller than a size 6 so they didn't charge for my younger kids. Water was warm even in mid Dec, and took plenty of underwater pictures with the disposable fuji cameras. Bahama mamas were good on the cruise on the way back. Never did get to look for sand dollars though. Got back to shore at 4, back at cruise terminal at 4:20, and left port around 5. Wish we had left the ship earlier to have time to wander the Old Lucaya beaches. Read Less

The best part for us (other than the NYE party) was the ports. First we went to Freeport where we did the Dolphin swim. It was totally worth it. We took a bus over to the main building, then a boat to the area with the dolphins. There was another group with us doing a dolphin encounter, but they didnt get to swim like we did. The dolphins were great, and I found that we had plenty of time with them! Although the water was freezing, and the end got cut off by a thunder storm, it was the best part of our cruise! I recommend this! Read Less

We took a taxi to Port Lucaya for some shopping and visited the beach there. Our taxi driver was named Shirley and she was wonderful. She told us some of the history of the island and had a small quiz for the kids on the ride. When she picked us back up she asked the kids what they remembered from the quiz she had given them. She gave the winner a Bahamian Dollar which thrilled our son. If you decide to take a taxi I would definitely see if you can request her. It cost us $5.00 each way which we felt was reasonable. We didnt enjoy the straw market due to the vendors being extremely pushy. We walked across the road and spent a little time on the beach then headed back to the ship for lunch. Read Less

This is our first tour of this port and was slightly below expectations. I really had none, but I thought it would be slightly better. We did take a tour that took us to some neighborhoods and got to visit a beach, but it was near vendors. At least the port was better than Nassau's. Not much for us to do. Even the captain told us that there is not much to do in Freeport. I was surprised but Freeport is not that developed like Nassau. But that is also what makes it great. We had a GREAT excursion on this stop. We did the 14 mile bike ride across the island. We had a great local tour guide that was funny and took us all over the place. Then we had a nice lunch at some tropical island park that was beautiful. Then you go to the beach for some tropical drinks and beach fun for about an hour. If you are an active person, I could not suggest this excursion enough. You learn about the Bahamas, you get great exercise, you get to see alot and still make it for a nice beach break swim. We took a cab to the city,($5 per person) about a 20 minute drive. It was like Mr. Toads Wild Ride! It wasn't just our cab driver...everyone was commenting. Our driver was passing the police! Lots of round-abouts. Lot's of stop signs (which were mostly ignored). It was fun though...gave us something to talk about. We only spent a couple of hours there. Not a lot we wanted to see...a lot of the same. Read Less
