Freeport was beautiful. We spent time at the beach (Taino is the better white sand beach. Lucaya is rocky). You do have to take a taxi to anything worthwhile, but the drivers are great and will take you anywhere you need to go (for a fee, of course). We also visited the straw market at Lucaya, where you can buy a little bit of anything, and try dozens of different bars and restaurants. Read Less

Freeport: busy industrial port where Carnival dry docks there ships. Outside the gangway is a little market to sucker in the tourist with vendors selling the same bags and t-shirts that you see at every port. Theres also a Senior Frogs and Cariloha. To leave the port you have to take a 25 minute $5pp each way taxi (van) to Port Luyca. The taxi ride was a tight fit as they jam 14 people into what's basically a little bigger than a mini van. Our driver gave us information about the area, tidbits, facts and answered any questions we had. Once at Port Luyca you'll find even more of the same shops with bags, t-shirts jewelry stores and the usual bars. Across the street is the Raddison hotel and Casino. To get access to the beach without having to pay the hotel access fee requires you to walk down this long, narrow, dirt and puddle filled pathway. The beach is small and under impressive but the blue water is memorizing as usual. We had booked a snorkeling excursion through Carnival but it was cancelled because of the high winds and dangerous seas......since the weather wasn't the best we just left the ship and hung out right by the dock. Not much there, some shops, eateries and Senor Frogs. It was fine and had we wanted to do more we could but there wasn't a strong urge since the weather wasn't great. Sorry, can't really report more on Freeport. Read Less

Ugly port without much to do, it seemed. Glad to have had the day on the ship while others were off exploring (though not sure what they were doing)

Was very disappointed in this port as their was nothing there. It had all the same stuff as the Nassau in terms of products. All the excusions were cancelled because of sea warnings so I can't comment on going to Port Lucaya

This is a commercial port and there is nothing within walking distance, you need to purchase and excursion or rent a taxi to do anything... but there is a small amount of shopping right here as well as Senor Frogs. I took my Nephew to the Sea Explorer which is a semi submersible boat... a 15 minute bus ride to Port Lucaya then a good hour on the boat.. it was great.. we seen all kinds of fish including a shark. After our excursion we had at least 2 hours of shopping which was nice and relaxing.. there is also a casino in this area. Read Less

We used lounge chairs in front of Tony Macaroni's beach bar. We enjoyed his conch demonstration very much. We had drinks and roasted conch which we enjoyed. This was a low key, cheap day! The water was too cool for us but I put my toes in. Read Less

Actually the boat didn't go to Freeport as the dock was well west of there. I did catch a but to Lucaya and it was worth about an hour of my time. Being the the food on the boat was lacking I did get a nice lunch while I was off.

Freeport - It was also cold this day, but much warmer. We took a cab to Lucaya, which ran out of gas on the side of the road. We made it there and went to the beach and shopping which was good. They didn't have any chairs to rent, which they did when I have been there in the past. The prices are more expensive here than closer to the boat. We went to Senor Frogs again and then back on the boat. We think someone may not have made it back to the boat. They made several announcements looking for two people and we saw ship officers looking with photos of people in the spa (we assumed they were searching the boat for them). Not sure if they got left behind, but we left a little late. This is one of my favorite ports and is very relaxed. I wish we spent more time here. Read Less

I enjoyed the number of options to purchase souvenirs, but they lacked in places to eat. The main restaurant option was Senor Frogs and although the food and drinks were delicious and very fresh (I had the fish sandwich and my travel buddy had the fish tacos), the bees that swarmed in close proximity was quite annoying. The staff had no way of controlling them and stated that sometimes they are there and sometimes they aren't. The only other places to eat directly off the ship were at local spots that were in the same vicinity. I'm sure there was more to do, had we ventured off or booked an excursion, but the timing was not the same as it was in Nassau and we had less time at this port, so we opt to stay close and enjoy the sun while we could. We had the best weather of the cruise for our day in Freeport. We really enjoyed this port and I would love to go back there again. There was a large local market as you disembarked the ship with lots of local things to see. We walked a ways to a restaurant nearby that feeds sharks and got to see some sharks in the water and had a drink there. The restaurant was nearly deserted, but the views/scenery were beautiful. There was also a small patch of beach there, but I wouldn't swim with all the sharks nearby! It was a lovely day, though, and we surely enjoyed the sunshine. Our ship was only in port until 2:00 p.m., so we didn't have enough time there to explore much further. Next time we go to Freeport, we will take a cab into town, but even the port area was a good way to spend a few hours. Read Less

We took a taxi in to Port Lacaya $10.00/person round trip. Walked around a bit. went across the street to the Casino, lost a bit and headed back to the ship. Casino was dead.We did the Senior Frogs thing and found it lacking. Service was slow and it was just kind of blah.Stopped at the Harley shop to get the required shirt then back on board. (little thing we noticed...the HD shirts were more expensive at Port Lacaya than at the store near the ship). Read Less
