Review for a Bahamas Cruise on Carnival Dream

Freeport is unusual because the ship docks in a very industrial area. Other than a few shops right by the ship, you must sign up for a tour or take a harrowing taxi/van ride to Port Lucaya or another location. We did enjoy the glass bottom boat tour (not booked through Carnival) and got to see numerous sharks in their natural environment. ...

Last year we did the Segway tour, but this year, we just ate at Senor Frog's and walked around a bit. The biggest problem with this port is that everything is so far away from the cruise port. ...

During a previous cruise I had visited the animal shelter (they let you take the dogs on walks), the national park and Gold Rock Beach, all of which had been such fun that I had hoped to be able to share them with my family. (Tip: rent a car if you want to go to places like this. It is cheaper than the shuttle buses or taxis offered if it is for more than one person.) Unfortunately the timing was ...

We went to Port Lucaya and visited the free beach there. Stunning views. Went on an hour banana boat tour and was the highlight of out trip! Ocean Motion excursions I believe were our tour guides and Ricardo was our boat driver. Awesome! ...

Didn't do much here, as our friends are fair skinned and could not handle beach time three days in a row. We hopped a cab to Lucaya, did some gambling at the Casino, and then walked around the market a bit. ...

It rained when we arrived into port, so we were in no rush to get off. When it stopped raining, we got off, but we were timid to take a cab anywhere not knowing whether or not it was going to rain. So we just tooled around the straw market that is right off the ship. There's certainly nothing much to it. I bought some shot glasses and a conch shell with the names of my girlfriend and I. Then we ...

We enjoyed the shopping available at the dock. After eating lunch back on the ship, we did take a taxi ride about 20 minutes away to check out more shopping and a beach. The beach was beautiful, the sand was very clean, and the water was cold. The taxi ride cost $15 each way for the three of us. I was amused at the driver when she stopped to get some gas and only put in 4.5 gallons. She'll be ...

Shared a cab with a few folk, $10 round trip, they give you small cards you use for your return, any cab will accept them . Went over to the Lucayan resort. Paid $15 per person to use pool, chairs, etc. it was a rather cool afternoon so we sun bathed. Beer was $6 and food expensive. The ladies at the towel hut were awesome as we were told no towels were provided. A good day but the driver left us ...

It had been several years since I had been to the Bahamas, and I don't believe I had ever been to Freeport. We decided to do something on our own, and took a Taxi ($5 pp) that carried about 10 people. The driver told us a little about Freeport, and took us close to the beach, which was free. The Lycanan beach is not much, and it would have been better if it had been warmer, but the wind was ...
