We didn't have much time in Freeport but we made the most of it. After spending big dollars in Disney World and Atlantis, we just walked off the ship to the little shopping complex Freeport offers. We did the most souvenir shopping here. My daughter got braids (cheaper here than in Nassau), we got towels, T-shirts, hats, straw fans, and my DH and his son bought hand-carved walking sticks for only $30 ea. He thought it was a bargain. We didn't do an excursion here except to grab a taxi and pay for it ourselves. It was a complete waste though. We didn't like Freeport for its shopping - I felt like I could find better deals at the stores in the states. In the end, if we had another day of beach in us, we probably should have gone to Xanadu beach like I originally wanted to. I recall from a previous trip years ago that it was a really nice beach. Unfortunately we were all sunned out from Blue Lagoon the day before. Read Less

Cant say too much about this port because I never got off the ship. I got a little too much sun the day before and just couldn't handle anymore of that heat. My daughter ventured out and said the shops by the ship were plenty but all full of the same stuff. I thought the port area was pretty and spent alot of time on my balcony taking pictures of it. Two other cruise ships shared the port with us that day. We were only there from 7am to 2pm. Read Less

Didn't do much in Freeport, but was glad to see that there were T-shirt shops, souvenirs, food stands, and music right at the dock. I stayed in the shopping are and milled around.

Took a cab to a beach off the beaten path. There was a nice little restaurant and bar there, but not much else. I can't remember the name of the beach which is odd because we got stranded there for awhile. Finally a nice tour group leader said she had room in her van and took us to Lucaya Beach, her tours next stop. We threw her $10 for the efforts and she seemingly was very thankful for this. We then spent the rest of the day at the beach at Our Reef Villa at Lucaya beach. It was a surprisingly nice resort and we really enjoyed its Sugar Mill Bar. Read Less

We chose the lucaya beach for 39.00 shore excursion. The water was warm and wonderful they had different activities going on you got use of the beach towels and lounge chairs There was 2 pools, lane swimming area and a hot tub. There was beach volleyball, trampoline in the water and jet ski's You could walk the road to the lucaya shopping area to be honest not much there everything is really expensive in the bahamas. I was able to get a few souveniers for people back home. We got a beatiful beach sunset painted picture with a man and woman holding hands at one of the local shops and they painted on it our names and vacation in freeport 2010 free of charge it cost us only 15.00 and it was beautiful memory of our trip. The shuttles come to pick you up either at the shopping area or the beach every hr. we planned to eat something authentically bahamaian at the port for lunch but found we were disappointed and saw only domino's pizza, a greek and meditteranian restaurant. So we saved out hunger and ate for free on the ship. The port time is from 8:30 to 5:30 last shuttle for our excursion was at 5:00 ____________________________ Read Less

We did not book a shore excursion. Just got off the ship and did some shopping with our grandson at the port. The people we talked to were very friendly and we didn't feel that the shops people where not to pushy.

Freeport: We signed up for the Blue Water Snorkeling catamaran trip with an original time of 8:30. We received a note under our door that our time was changed to 1:00. This was more for our children than us. My husband and I do lots of scuba diving and the fish and coral we saw was quite boring. But the kids had a good time. One plus was that we walked from the ship to the catamaran...no long bus ride. Snorkel gear was provided but we brought our own...I almost wonder if they would have run out of gear had we not had our own. There were a lot of people on the catamaran and I heard one of the crew comment on too many people (I wonder if the 8:30 group was combined with the 1:00 group). Once we were all in the water it was hard keeping clear of all the other snorkelers...then another boat dropped anchor in the same spot. We were under the impression beverages would be provided...they were but at a minimal charge...a bottle of water was only $1. All in all this was a decent excursion...as long as you're not looking for a large variety of fish and live coral. Freeport itself didn't seem like an exciting port otherwise...I'm not sure how far you had to travel to get to the tourist traps. Read Less

Freeport Bahamas is BORING! Have to take a taxi that costs 10 dollars round-trip per person to Port Lucaya which has shops, a marina and a straw market, typical let me braid your hair, check my stuff out pretty lady crowd. We did the Fantasia/Pat and Diane snorkeling excursion which we enjoyed, there were more tropical fish than I had ever seen of all shapes colors and sizes! The reef (Rainbow) is dying but still quite a bit of coral and fairly shallow, the boat has a waterslide and a rock climbing wall, the staff was great and entertaining. I would recommend to others who want to snorkel. Read Less

Very commercial looking port area. Certainly nothing visually "appealing" - mainly a container port and there is a funky smell in the air... Looks like they may have dredged and filed in some of the port area to expand it. Kind of ugly and totally different from what I remember on my one other stop here on a cruise in the early 1960's! We did not take any of the ship's tours nor did we do any private tours or rent a vehicle, so only saw the cute little shopping area near the piers. they have done a good job with that touristy area and had entertainment at a pavilion for the Fascination and several other cruise ships. Since our stop was only for a couple hours we enjoyed shopping and just taking it easy. Read Less

I really can't say too much about this port. There were shops right next to the ship and we found this very convenient. There were people selling coconut water and the local drink from a cart. They also were selling conch salad and conch fritters at very reasonable prices. We saw some people eating and there was probably at least one restaurant. Items for sale were clothing, jewelry, candles and souvenir stuff. We were lazy and did not explore Freeport further, but know that some people went snorkeling. I give it a 3 rating for simple what we saw, but others may give a higher rating because they actually explored the area! Read Less

Would have liked to have had more time on Freeport. Looked like a nice island although we only had time to go to Lucaya Marketplace. Beaches around Lucaya looked very nice.

Freeport was pretty boring. The port is in the industrial part of town and is not appealing to the eye at all. To see anything worthwhile, you have to take a taxi about 10 miles to a better part of town. Even then, the shopping and sight-seeing is not that great. I could have done without seeing Freeport. Nassau was the 2nd place we stopped and it was much better. We took a water taxi over to Atlantis. That was fun. Read Less
