I would skip the shopping, and head to lucaya beach. It was great. The shopping was touristy, pushy and not worth the beach time we lost.

Freeport: many people have panned Freeport, and I don't get it. We took a cab to Paradise Cove, and I snorkeled while my husband and son played on the beach. This was the coldest day, maybe 76 degrees, and the water was rough. I'm a strong swimmer, but by the time I got out to where the good snorkeling was it was pretty tiring with the waves. It wasn't the best snorkeling as it was pretty stirred up due to the waves, but I saw two sting rays pretty close by, and a few turtles and lots of different fish, would have been really nice on a calmer, warmer day. Paradise Cove had everything you needed to rent and also had food and clean bathrooms. The cab driver gave us a bit of a tour and history lesson on the way there, whch was interesting. I think this was equal to many of the carribean ports I've been to, we had a good time anyway!! Back at the ship there's a small market set up, and we had conch fritters and a daiquiri before we had to be back on board Read Less

Our final port of call was Freeport Bahamas. Freeport was a HUGE disappointment. I honestly don't know what the cruise ships stop here. There is nothing to see unless you take an excursion. The sand on the beaches is just the same as you'd find in Florida. In fact, we enjoyed the Florida beaches more. The town of Lucaya is the destination now, and the shopping area and beaches there as well as the food are a waste of time. I would take any port we've ever been to over this one and will try to avoid going there again in the future. I have read that there are some very nice beaches much farther our such as Gold Rock, but honestly it is so far away that you would spend as much time working out how to get there as you would on the beach which just makes it not as inviting. Freeport, well we were going to visit the Grand Lucyan since Freeport is mostly industrial so not much to do except stay on the ship or go into town, but weather stopped that so we settled for the Lucya Market across the street, not that bad but there is a lot of high pressure sellers there. We even got a ride with Mr. Curry once you take a taxi there you'll know Mr. Curry or his hundreds of Curry taxis. We got 1 last drink at Senior Frogs off the dock and sadly set sail back to Port Canaveral Read Less

Not really much here. The village opens up when the ships come in, and close up when the ships pull out. There are lots of shops set up to browse and shop for souvenirs, and we did buy a few nice things here. A band played in the gazebo, which was entertaining, but a couple of hours was PLENTY for this port. This would've been a good day to take advantage of reduced pricing at the spa on the ship for a port day. If we went to this port again we'd definitely book an excursion, as there is really not much offered close by. Read Less

We did not plan an excursion for Freeport, but decided to enjoy the shopping available at the cruise port. There are quite a few options there ranging from well-known establishments like Senor Frog, to local vendors. A central area with picnic tables makes a nice spot to rest or have a snack and enjoy the view and music. After shopping in the morning, we returned to the ship for lunch and spent the rest of the time enjoying ship amenities. Apart from a bit of shopping, there is little to do in the port area without engaging a taxi or planning an excursion. Read Less

We enjoyed just walking in the little market area by the dock. We went to the market at Lucaya, but wouldn't do it again. Next time we will save the $20 cab fare and just stay by the dock.

Freeport - Again, no excursions. We got off the ship and went to the straw market. We also took a taxi to Port Lucaya marketplace, where we shopped. The straw market was pretty much the same, but they had some more jewelry stores. There was a beach there somewhere, but we didn't go and we heard it was windy and not great for laying out. Then cabbed back to the port, wondered around the market and restaurants some more and headed back to the ship for lunch. I probably won't have spent the money for the cab to Port Lucaya again ($10 roundtrip pp and it took about 20 minutes). It was pretty weather but I wasn't too impressed with Freeport at all. There is a Senor Frogs right when you get off the ship, so thats an option if you want to drink or eat lunch. Read Less
