Livorno would not allow anyone to walk from the port. They made everyone pay 5€/person for their shuttle (which used to be free) or pay 25€ for a taxi for city center. This shuttle bus then drove around in circles for almost 30 minutes to get to city center (which is at most a 10 minute drive!) and we almost missed our excursion! We used TuscanyBus to book independent transfer to Florence. This ...

Florence (Livorno) - Took a tour of Cinque Terre. By bus, 2 boats, 1 train, and a bus back to port. On the way we saw the white mountains of Carrera - marble! It was by far the most walking we did! After the first bus ride there was a very steep walk down to Manarola. This was the steepest village we toured. The villages are on hills and are breathtakingly beautiful. Livorno is not my favourite port of call. To much of a industiral-port-port. And going on a expensive excursion to Florence with a two hour bus drive each way didn't appeal to us this time. ...

We booked an NCL tour for this stop for one reason: we wanted to go to Florence, which was a long distance away, traffic is bad, and if we missed departure time on a private tour we would be out-of-luck, whereas the ship would wait for an NCL tour to return. Our tour was to Florence with wine tasting – we decided to skip Pisa. (I have been to Pisa before; the cathedral is splendid and do go up the ...

Our 4th stop on Viking was in Livorno, Italy. Our excursion took us to Tuscany and San Gimignano. It is hard to put into words the scenery as we drove to San Gimignano and the Tuscany region. We had a tour of a working vineyard and distillery and ate lunch at the Farm where fresh farm raised food was served. ...
