Seemed like a great city, but the Fringe Festival was in effect, bringing 800,000 extra tourists into the city. Could not take a cab anywhere near the castle. walked three miles uphill to get close enough for pictures. Unless you love being shoved around by crowds, do not go during the fringe festival. I would go back to see the many places we missed. I think that you could spend 3-4 days enjoying the city. Read Less

tour guide was excellent but there is no time for shopping on this walking tour. our time was limited in the Palace so we weren't able to see everything. this was my favorite place - just beautiful!!

We took the HOHO bus tour which was crowded. There were 3 cruise ships in port so there were thousands of tourists milling about.

Charming, scenic city. Took an Uber to the train station to buy Hop on Hop off bus tickets. We made the full round, listening to an audio tour, then started round again, this time getting off by Greyfriars Church (had a tasty lunch at The Elephant House), Calton Hill, and the National Gallery. Took another Uber back to the port for the hours-long lineup in the rain to get a tender back to the ship. Our experience in Edinburgh was definitely colored by NCL inefficiency. (We were two and a half hours on board that morning waiting for our tender number to be called, and we were only in tender group 8!) Read Less

We docked at New Haven. Again the tendering was terrible, such a long wait. When I got to the dock I was asking for bus no. 11 to get me to Edinburgh but who knew there was express buses going to St. Andrews Square (GBP 4.00 return and I thought a bargain!) I had been to Edinburgh seven years ago. I thought Royal Mile was busy then, think there were 10xs as many people! I didn’t walk there very long, used the National Library of Scotland for WIFI quickly then decided to explore the New Town more before heading back to the ship. Back at New Haven I stopped at the Brewer’s faye pub/restaurant right there the dock for a beer (I tried Tennants beer established in1885) and used their WIFI. My timing was perfect getting back to the ship because after 4:00 I heard it started to get busy with long lines for tendering. Someone said they waited 2 ½ hours. Read Less

Take the bus into town and just walk to see the sites. Its a small city and eveything is close. We took the Red Hop on hop off bus and we could have done all that by foot.

Having visited Edinburgh several times I opted to take this excursion out of the city. The gardens were lovely.

Took the train into town on our own. Proncess did have a reasonbably priced shuttle there. Went to the Castle which was awesome. Bought our tickets in advance and got there close to opening time. Got more crowded as the day passed. Walked down the Royal Mile with interesting architecture and "Closes" but it seems to have mostly devolved into a massive tourist shopping strip with the same stores repeating along the route. We wanted to go on to Palace of Holyroodhouse and Arthur's Seat overlooking the city but we were fighting colds we caught on the ship so we cut our day short. Read Less

We paid $6 to take the bus from the ship into town and We did the HOHO bus (only one route). We went to the Castle and there was way to many people there. Wandered around but ended up going back to the ship early as it was a tender port and it took us quite awhile to get off the ship. We should have stopped and did a drug store run in the city as the little shops by the dock didn't even have a cough drop. Read Less

It was my 8th time to Edinburgh and so I wasn't too excited about this one...but when the sun is shining, it's such a lovely city to just wander around. The location at Newhaven was really easy to get into the city by public bus, and I got to see Leith and some of the suburbs on the way in which I normally miss by coming from the airport. It's a tender port though which is a bit of a pain. Read Less

Tender to port, took too long. Long wait for shuttle to town, cost 10GBP. It was not organize at all. I guess Princess contracted the local bus company to take passengers to town, the ladies were nice, but the man in the front was not friendly at all. He pretty much accused me of lying how long we waited in line. We waited an hour in line for the shuttle, he claimed we only waited for 35 mins! WRONG!!! I will be a lady and not pick a fight at foreign land. Read Less

Edinburgh Castle is worth the walk up the hill. Tender process a bit long, so did not have as much time as I would have liked to explore this city.
