The ship moored a 20 minutes tender ride from Leith, where a local shuttle drove us another 20 minutes into Edinburgh. We didn't book seats for the Tattoo so were spared the dismal tendering experience described by guests who went on the first evening. The highlight of our Edinburgh visit was Holyrood House Palace. We bought entrance tickets on line so avoided queues to get in. Fascinating historical artifacts (even a lock of Mary Queen of Scots' hair), spacious halls, art work and lovely gardens. Read Less

A group of us hired a private coach to transfer to and from the ship. First thing dropped us off at the Edinburgh castle. So arriving early we beat the crowds of people a couple of hours later. Do get the recorded commentary. We did not and wish we had as it would have been more meaningful. Proceeded after to walk the Royal mile and do a bit of shopping. Read Less

Waled around the town-- started at the Castle and then down the Royal Mile. Ended up taking a tour of the Yacht Britannia (the Queen's former yacht), which was really enjoyable.

The Royal Brittania Yacht and the Holyrood Palace were highlights which we went to on our own. There is a bus right near the ship from the port into town, reasonably priced. Then the number 22 bus takes you right to Ocean Terminal for the Yacht. Needed one pound, thirty pence exact change. From the yacht the information desk in the mall called a cab for us who came right away and took us to the Holyrood Palace. Read Less

The family visited Edinburgh in the morning and split up in the afternoon. We booked a quick tour with Rabbie's City Tour. I didn't realize (or remember) that the tour was an audio tour which wasn't really my cup of tea. It did drive us around and give us a quick overview of the city. In the afternoon, two of us visited St. Andrews on a ship shore excursion and two of us remained in Edinburgh to visit Edinburgh Castle. Read Less

ON OUR OWN - Took NEW BUS SERVICE 20 yards to left of pier. OUTSTANDING VALUE for time and money.(15 dollars / euros or 10 BPS round trip). Buses back every 30 minutes. Brand new service that met cruisers needs in high quality fashion. Edinburgh Castle outstanding (took back counter clock wise hike to Castle per local area resident recommendation. 1/3 the walk and 1/3 time to get there. We were first 5 people in line and arrived full 20-30 minutes ahead of others. Great time - informative and fun. Did Royal Mile Walk to Halyrood - Big disappointment Queen there so everything blocked off and Parliment big disappointment. However excellent shopping, and Princess Street Green & Gardens was outstanding. Beautiful city. needed more time there to see it all. Read Less

Chilly and misting day. Ship tendered in here. I walked around Queensferry a little. I was surprised that there weren't more store opened since there was a cruise ship in port. I would think they would try to get more of the paseengers to stay in town rather than going to Edinburgh. My husband took the bus into Edinburgh and visited an art museum, took pictures of the castle and came back. Not a great walking day. Read Less
