We had all day in town but had to wait around an hour to get off the ship. The Princess experience taught us that waiting and seeing go hand in hand. They are very poor at disembarking travelers who are independent.

Tender to port, took too long. Long wait for shuttle to town, cost 10GBP. It was not organize at all. I guess Princess contracted the local bus company to take passengers to town, the ladies were nice, but the man in the front was not friendly at all. He pretty much accused me of lying how long we waited in line. We waited an hour in line for the shuttle, he claimed we only waited for 35 mins! WRONG!!! I will be a lady and not pick a fight at foreign land. Read Less

took the train to Edinburgh, up 120 steep steps and then a 1/2 mile walk to the train station. Edinburgh was great fun, boisterous and great shopping. Beautiful Edinburgh castle and gorgeous other buildings. Heaven!

Loved Edinburgh. So glad we had skip the line tickets for the castle. Too much to see in one day. Did hop on off bus and were pleased with live guide and how often buses came by.

Edinburgh Castle is worth the walk up the hill. Tender process a bit long, so did not have as much time as I would have liked to explore this city.

Edinburgh is a lovely city with tonnes of personality. We really, really enjoyed spending the day walking and exploring on our own. The city of Edinburgh is a half hour drive from port. There is a shuttle bus run by the port city that costs 10 GBP round trip. We didn't take it because the line up was HUGE. The line for taxis was also enormous but moved faster than the bus. We fit 6 people into our cab so it worked out to only 5 GBP per person to get into town and then 25 GBP to get home (taxi for 2). Read Less

Planned a full day on our own, but tendering off the ship slowed everything down. Then the wait for the shuttle bus. By the time we got into town, we were 2 hours behind schedule. We had pre-booked and paid for tours at Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh Castle. We walked down the Royal Mile, shopping along the way and toured the palace. Because of the time of the last shuttle bus, we didn't have time to tour the castle. Also, we were so exhausted, we didn't feel much remorse. Save it for another trip. There is no way to do that city justice in one day. Just too much to see. Read Less

Would have loved to spend some time here, awesome city, but Princess had other plans. Most poorly organized port of call I've ever experienced. I spent almost 5 yrs working for cruise lines all over the world, and Princess should be ashamed of themselves for this one. Might I suggest staying in port much longer, especially if you have no available means for people to get to the city. Fire that idiot Shuttle Bus Operator calling us stupid for waiting on a cab, let him know we made it back to the ship no problem when you do. Read Less

I love Edinburgh, but not in August and not with a 2 hour wait to leave the ship. Disregarding the craptastic job the ship did on ferrying people to and from the port, going during the Tattoo and during the Fringe festival was a mistake. The on off bus over sold tickets so it took forever to got on a bus, there was no room. We were told there were some altercations, due to people waiting for a bus only to see bus after bus come and go with no seats available. We purchased the 48 hour tickets with entry to the Castle, Holyrood, and the Royal Yacht Britainia. We had seen the castle and the palace before, and they were still very interesting. The Yacht tour was great, tea in the tea room was delicious, definitely worth a visit. The bus from the yacht ends at 1730, so we had to hike a mile or so, back to the harbor then stand in line 45 minutes to get on a tender and 25 minutes waiting for it to take off... Read Less
