A wonderful fairy tale like place! We did our own tour of the wall and the City taking advice from the Trip Advisor website and found it quite easy and simple to do.

our next next port was Messina, Sicily. We went to the beach. It was crowded and just a factory of people. Not great but at least we were in the water out of the heat. Then we hit two ports in Greece. Olympia was really really nice. Hot but nice. Navpilon was great and the tours of the ruins were very interesting and not to be missed. Then we hit Corfu. We decided that we we'd try to find a beach since i had researched their beaches before we left. We had been advised to rent a car. They were all gone when we got there about 930am. We asked about a taxi and the driver wanted 120euro to go about 15miles. A huge ripoff. We finally figured out the public transportation system and paid 1.30euro to go to a different beach. Not a great one but at least cheaper than 120euro. Not a great day. By the time we hit Croatia, we were just done with places. It was a beautiful looking place and my mother took a city tour and said it was fabulous but we'd had enough. Maybe someday i'll get back there to do it justice. Read Less

We did a tour here, but this would be way easy to do on your own. The city is nice and the food is good. Lots of seafood and fish type dishes. We ordered olives, cheese and bread for our five year old and he was fine. Definitely wander up and down the alleys to see more of the city. Would liked to have seen more of Croatia - maybe scuba diving or swimming as the water was beautiful! Read Less

The old city is so beautiful, although hot. We'd been here before, so we just went straight through the old city and down to the water. Swam off the rocks on the far side of the walls. Beware though - this is a popular area with the younger set and there were plenty of topless girls. Water was clear and beautiful and there was even a shower of sorts with fresh water so we didn't have to schlep through the town covered in salt. Didn't cost a dime! Ice cream is cheap here, and yummy! Read Less

Dubrovnik: don't bother with a tour. You can get everywhere in town simply walking. Do not miss Walking-The-Wall! It is still possible to see signs of the Serb bombardment during the Balkan war. Buy some of the lavender packets wrapped in the lace pouches from the elderly lady street senders. Eat down by the waterfront at the old harbor. We had seafood risotto at Lokando Peskarija. Don't miss the second oldest Synagogue in Euope, 13th century. You will need to exchange Euos for Kuna to ride the bus, but easy to do right by the bus stop. Read Less

Great city - we did the tour around the walls - we had wonderful weather and it was amazing to see the city from the sea. There is a different currency here - 8 to €1 or something!

We ended up getting on a bus from Costa cruise lines to return back to the ship and it was free. Another reason not to sail with MSC they nickel and dime you for everything. Read Less

The BEST! by far. What a fabulous old town for walking. We took a morning and early afternoon tour of the countryside which included a boat ride down an agricultural canal and lunch at an old house. Lunch was nothing to write home about but the scenery was spectacular and we got to go into Bosnia so we copped another country. Back in town, we still had time to wander around the old city. We wished we had more time for that. Don't listen to your tour guide about where to find a public restroom. Go straight to the Hilton! Big sign at the shuttle stop. Can't miss it. Beautiful, beautiful city and surrounding area. Read Less
