Dublin: Used Garvan Rusche or dublintourguide.ie. Very knowledgeable in history. 5 hour walking tour for 6 of us. Would do bigger groups but we like to keep our groups to 6-8 people in all our excursions. We took taxi into Dublin. Was 20 Euros for 6 of us. It is about a 15 minute drive. You can also do Dublin on your own. The Princess shuttle was $8 pp each way which is why we took a taxi. You can walk around Dublin. There is a tourist center right by Trinity College and the taxi rank to go back to the ship is also right in that vicinity. We docked at Ocean Pier #33 in Alexandra Basin. Read Less

Great city did the hop-on hop-off bus to get the lay of the city. The Guinness Storehouse was amazing it was like the Google campus in CA on beer. 5 floors of great exhibits and beer tasting you could even learn how to pour a "perfect pint." We then walked around the pub area and visited the famous Temple Bar, criss-crossed the bridges and still had a little time for some fo the historical buildings. Read Less

In Dublin, X charged $15.00 pp for a bus ride into the City Center. From there we purchased tickets to the Hop-on, hop-off bus. Since we were also going to Belfast, we elected to purchase a combo ticket. It saved us some money. We boarded the Hop-on, on hop-off and toured the gaol. This was a fascinating slice of Irish history and was very informative on prison reform. It took about two hours. The tour guide was excellent and the tour was well done. After touring gaol, we hopped back on the tour bus and finished the circuit around Dublin. We walked around the down-town city center area (shopping, of course). We went to Trinity College but did not have time to do the Book of Kells. We went to St. Stevens Green, a beautiful park in this area. Dublin is a beautiful city and we want to go back there. It was a Friday afternoon but it seemed like everyone was downtown enjoying the beautiful day. Read Less

The city tour was a bust, studentds decided to have a Zombie Parade, basically it shut down the entire center of downtown Dublin for two hours. Basically all we saw was the Book of Kells after waiting in line for an hour, I feel while it is truely a noteworthy experience, their crowd contol leaves a lot to be desired. On the second day took a bus out to a farm and spent the day being an Irishmen. Sone of the trip highlights, from making Soda Bread, to milking a cow, to assisting in rounding up sheep, to learning how to hurl. The experience was very worthwhile. Read Less

In Dublin we walked around town visiting St.Patrick's Cathedral and Trinity college seeing "The Book of Kells" and Dublin's oldest pub on our own. I would recommend taking the HOHO since Dublin is such a large city for walking. The line for "The Book of Kells" was quite long but moved quickly & in 30 minutes we were inside. There was a Shakespeare Festival going on at Trinity but nothing on Monday, the day we were there. Read Less

In Dublin I took two ship's tours.  I didn't want to miss anything!  In the morning I went to Wicklow to see Powerscourt Hall.  Wicklow is a truly beautiful part of Ireland with mountains, valleys, farms, sheep etc.  Powerscourt is basically a trip to see the garden as the building was gutted by fire in the 1970's.  The gardens are amazing.  There is a huge Italian garden with water fountains and statues.  There are also walled gardens and large fields and tree covered areas. In the afternoon I went to Malahide Castle.  This was close to Dublin.  The castle is very old and the rooms are beautifully decorated in period styles.  There was a recorded narration there, which I did not like.  It meant we could not move through the rooms at the speed the group wanted, we had to stick to the narration.  Also, there was no one to ask questions of any item in the room that was not covered by the recording.  We did not have time to visit the garden, which is also an extra cost. I had booked a tour through Elegant Irish Tours. We were so late into port that I did not expect them to show up, though they say they did. Another couple told us they had booked through Elegant Irish Tours also and did not locate the van so struck out on their own. This is not the fault of Princess Cruises but we told that some of the passengers did locate Elegant Irish Tours so we are not being offered a refund on this excursion. Those who did make it to the Trinity Libary to view the Book of Kells had the door shut in their faces due to the late arrival. Read Less

Because of mechanical issues, we didn't reach Dublin until mid-afternoon, which cancelled our tour to Powerscourt.

We used the Hop On Hop Off bus. Under normal circumstances, it would have been a good method of seeing the city sites. Unfortunately, our bus broke down. The driver repeatedly called his supervisor who kept saying that another bus would be there in 15 minutes. Over an hour later, after 3 other full busses went by, we finally crammed our way on to another full bus by refusing to accept no for an answer. We were so tired and discouraged that we returned to the ship. I still would recommend he Hop On , Hop Off bus but use the one that's run by the state, a 'Red' bus line as I remember it. There were plenty of them going by with lots of room while we waited in vain for our 'Green' bus. Read Less

Dublin is a beautiful city and in the time we had there we met some very pleasant people. Did take a ship excursion in the evening to an Irish Dancing and Music show which was a lot of fun. The rest of Dublin was the low point of our cruise. Not terrible, but not special like the rest of the cruise.
